College Football Playoff

If you listened to that POS doing the game, he was huge on sucking SEC phalluses and he moved GA up to 3 with a LOSS today

Damn those two really pissed me off all night

I agree with him if your purely talking about who the best teams are.

I’m all for getting the best teams in, but there still has to be some sort of reward/penalty for what you accomplished in the regular season.

FWIW multiple books put out odds with all the potential playoff matchups and Georgia would be favored over either Ohio St or Oklahoma.

Ga already lost twice to Bama. Do they really deserve a third shot? When other teams have had none with a better record?

I don’t think chances really have anything to do with it, what happened in prior seasons has nothing to do with the criteria for getting in this year.

In my book Georgia is definitely out, and I don’t think they have much of an argument.

Agree they would and should be favored over OSU and Oklahoma, but they haven’t done enough to get in as a 2 loss team when there are 1 loss teams out there that are deserving.

It seems the idots on the selection committee take prior years into account, even though they shouldn't

First rule of this playoff concoction..

DON’T LOSE

UGA lost twice doesn’t matter who beat them or how well they played.

They are gonzo

This idea that 2 losses is better than 1 probably needs to stop.

Really the only argument should be at 4 between Oklahoma and UCF. I feel bad that a team can go undefeated for 2 straight years and cant sniff the playoffs. But Georgia losing twice to LSU and bama while Oklahoma has 1 loss and a conference title should end all silly debates here...

Prior years are relevant in terms of credibility of the process. If the same scenarios keep playing out (2 SEC teams; non-champs) + same teams (repetitive match-ups) there is risk that people will lose interest & view playoff with same skepticism as BCS. After all, two SEC teams in title game, even if it was the right decision, is a large reason why playoff exists. Committee definitely must weigh public perception. Particularly when comparison points between teams are close, it is fair to consider what a program did with previous chances. This year more than any will make the case for expansion to eight teams.

The more often the Big 10 teams are left out, the closer we get to an 8-team playoff.

Yup. This year it’s likely that the B12 and fat10 champs will be left out.

I really would like to see the 16 team format but 8 would make a lot of sense you have the five P5 champs and three at large

Oklahoma is getting in.

Part of me would like to see 16 teams because that offers opportunities to newcomers. However, 8 teams places meaningful games every week, but you limit it to Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Oklahoma, Georgia, and maybe only 2-3 other potential contenders on a yearly basis.

Agree with you on the playoffs. It gives programs like Pitt a shot

I don’t see Georgia being left out. Should be interesting to see what they do

I was listing those teams as the contenders for an 8-team playoff. With a 4-team playoff, this year the only realistic contenders were Alabama/Georga, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State/Michigan, Oklahoma.

The idea of picking who you THINK are the best tams is why CFB is stupid! Seriously? How can game results matter so little? You lose you CCG and they want to give you PUBLIC ASSISTANCE to keep playing? If you're so BEST, win the actual games!

I was referring to your comment about Oklahoma getting in this year. I think Georgia stays at four. We shall see

I'm sickened by these talking heads begging for Georgia to get in, leaving out THREE P5 Champions, THREE, I hate CFB to be honest, I like following Pitt, but not this playoff, I'm sick of watching the same few teams FOREVER. Think about an 8 team playoff with 5 P5 Champs - 1 G5 Champ. It would be more compelling than the BS we have now, it would be this year...

P5: Alabama, Clemson, tOSU. Oklahoma, Washington
G5: UCF
WC: ND, Georgia

How could you complain? The only complaints might be from 1 loss P5 teams that didn't win their conference to get in over Georgia, The 5 P5 champs would be totally deserving, UCF too, it would stop being FAKE and become a REAL SPORT. The only FAKE spots would be the WCs, which would still be based on a beauty contest, but ND is undefeated, so that takes care of one.

Going to 8 is worthless if you don't automatically take the Conference Champs.

And who are the conference champs or contenders every year:
ACC: Clemson
Big 10: Ohio State/Michigan
Big 12: Oklahoma
SEC: Alabama/Georgia
Notre Dame because they're Notre Dame

Didn't list any Pac 12 because who knows who's going to be good, hence the 2-3 other teams, which also includes a team like UCF.

But still. that gives others like Pitt an outside chance, this year Pitt reaches a play in game to get in to the 8 team tourney, and that at least is all I'd ask for. Some year, someone like Pitt pulls the upset and at least the possibility exists. If it's just opinion based "best teams" teams like Pitt pretty much never makes it. even at 12-1 Pitt is iffy, so I'd take a CHANCE at pulling a CCG upset.

of course it is stupid. But they have to keep the bowl system intact. That is the only reason this crap continues.

I bet UCF could beat Notre Dame
I would not be surprised at all. I might even favor them. ND is always in if undefeated because they want the NAME, period, nothing else. No other program is so grossly overrated based on Knute Rockne, The Gipper and Rudy and nothing else! How many seasons have they been in the preseason Top 10 and gone 5-7? Very often. The media just wants them desperately so they always get the benefit of the doubt and they had a hard time with 7-6 Pitt.
