Why doesn’t anyone tell this guy to go straight up and flush it home? He’s in slow motion when he goes up. He also doesn’t know how to set a screen properly.

The screen thing is mind boggling.

The other part is I think is confidence. Even that game tier he made it way harder. Turned out to be a nice move but unnecessary.

Then you correct the behavior by sitting him on the bench and teach it in practice until he gets it. Running sprints always worked with correcting our mistakes.
How tall are you and do you have any eligibility left !

By the way he spends a lot of time on the bench .

Maybe Collier needs a new coach to work with him
It’s a middle school fundamental .
He rushes out of it for the same reason he double clutches on a dunk -
He’s too busy thinking about what he has to do next - not just playing .

i mean Hugley has improved his screens and picks this season - so it’s something behind worked on.

a relatively mediocre player struggling isn’t always about the coaches

What exactly does height and eligibility have to do with understanding the basic fundamentals of basketball?
So true. This whole discussion
of setting screens properly is
almost ridiculous. Yes, it IS
coaching. First of all this is
something you learn way
beore college level. If Collier
hadn't been coached how to
set a pick properly at even
the JV level I'd be surprised.
At this point give him to an
assistant, take him to the
end of the floor and teach it
and make him practice it.
BTW, some of us were screaming
about this on here a month or
so ago. He's not as blatant now
as he was then, but it still is
bad technique.

However, he does hustle, and
basically is all we have off the
bench when Hugley goes out.

My point still stands. Horton set him up perfectly and he got rejected. It has happened numerous times this year.
He hesitates and stays under the rim too long before he tries to score. He needs to quickly put it in the basket when he gets the pass.

Many good suggestions of
what he could and should
do. The bottom line is he's
not that talented and other
than the bench, there is no
place in the ACC Bball world
for a player of this caliber.
So, game after game, there's
a lot to criticize. It's not all
his fault though.

With all that said, he hustles
and fights for rebounds. My
guess is he's a very good
teammate. He gets game
minutes because there's no
other option (unless Capel
goes small) when Hugley
comes out. As far as ability
to set proper picks? Well,
THAT he should know how
to do at this point in his
Bball career.

Why is Max on the roster still? If he can’t spell John at all.

Collier seems more like a slashing 4 than a 5.

Why don’t we ever play him at the 4 when Gueye comes out ?

Question 1: I have no
idea, you might have to
ask Capel.

Question 2: Yup maybe, but
if you"ve noticed him on the
open floor, he seems to be a
liability handling the ball. As
far as a jump shot, well just
watch him shoot a FT....UGH!

Question 3: See the previous
answer in Question 2.

I feel like the underlying message of all your posts is that “Whelp! Pitt sucks and won’t cheat. What can you do? Just accept it.”
I think it’s obvious that Pitt doesn’t believe in the win at all costs philosophy .

Put blame where the blame lies , but always blaming the coaches for a players or teams deficiencies isn’t always correct . We have no idea how or what they practice . Unless JC was sleeping through Dukes practices I think he had to learned something from being Coach K‘s right hand man .

Accepting what you have no control over seems like the most logical approach to any problem in life . If Pitt bb is your biggest problem in your life you have a great life !

So you are trying to help find players. You prob could do a better job than JC
I’d use a different approach !

I’ve felt for awhile Pitt needs to focus on under the radar type players , a center whose a bull , but 6’7” guards who can shoot , but are 6 ft . Use your judgment on kids who can really play ball , but aren’t the quickest or tallest , but can shoot where the sum of the parts are better than the individuals .

I agree. This is Capel’s 4th Year. If he hasn’t figured this out yet, then what makes you think he is going to, especially considering we have 0 recruits.

The man‘s not dumb and I think the impact of both Burton and Mo will make the portal this off season especially important to his long term future as a HC at Pitt . Their success hopefully will be an inducement to better players to consider Pitt .

He’s not in a position to recruit high school kids who can come in and make an instant impact , what he needs is a pg and couple of forwards who can come in and have the success that Burton and Mo are having right away .

Max doesn’t play because he’s slower than me, as a 43 year old going to physical therapy for right knee pain

you sometimes take flyers on bigs and hope they develop .
Some do and become Mo Gueye or Talib Zanna - others don’t and sit at the end of the bench until a scholarship spot is needed

Max…for…great leap next year…oh, that’s right, we don’t bother with the leap thing anymore.
