Just read the "gameday experience" post and figured I'd add this. The majority of profits from concessions at Pitt basketball games at the Petersen Events Center go directly to the Rooneys, as does most profit from the Pitt team store in the Pete's lobby. This is due to contractual agreement that Steve Pederson signed with the Rooneys almost two decades ago. As for the concessions and merchandise at Heinz Field, I'm not sure where the majority of profit goes, but I can only imagine it falls into the Rooneys' hands also. I don't know why this contract exists or when it will expire, but many inside Pitt Athletics believe this to be a critical mistake of Pederson's. I'm not sure what Pitt gets in return for handing over its concessions and team store money, but I can only guess it's a part of the parties' settlement for allowing Pitt to use Heinz Field.
My point here is that Pitt likely will not rake in profits if Scott Barnes and Gallagher decide to sell beer at home games, as the Rooneys will probably take what should go to Pitt. Again, this is only presumed, as I only know for sure that the Rooneys collect most of Pitt's profits from the Pete. But I can't imagine the contract doesn't apply to sales at Heinz Field, the Rooneys' palace, as well.
