I have posted this before.

Power 6 + the 4 high majors (A10, American, MWC, WCC)

2 groups of 5

Round Robin. Top 3 advance to knockout round.

Would be great TV for ESPN2 in a slow sports period

And a boon for the greater Wheeling area

For sure. They could play some games at the new Highlands Complex. We were over there for a tournament and I was shocked that all that stuff was in suburban Wheeling. Its like a "Waterfront" type complex with shops and restaurants. Never knew that was there. I couldn't help but think how could that area with a very small population support that type of retail.

Seriously though, you put that tournament in Dayton or Evansville, Indiana, or Omaha, or Sioux Falls or some crazy college sports town, games would be sold out and it would be the Super Bowl for that town.

IMO, it has less to do with the immediate population itself supporting it and more to do with 1) it generates a lot of traffic sitting along I-70 and and 2) the rest of the Ohio Valley region (e.g. Steubenville, Weirton) frequent it. It’s also why St. Clairsville saw a lot of development to a certain extent. The gas drilling didn’t hurt, either.

It’s about the same distance as Robinson for most locals so they hop between places, especially if you’re south of Steubenville.

Edit: Sorry it’s a little off-topic, but we lived there for about a dozen years so I figured I’d chime in.

I don't know, I think you still need a locL population. I don't see how they can rely on people coming from 30 miles away or people stopping off on 70 on their way from like Philly to Columbus to go shopping

Isn’t there a 3-on-3 tourney that takes place with conference teams sometime after the season? I seem to remember Wilson-Frame playing in it for the ACC team.

Yea. Pretty good idea. But a 5 on 5 thing would be great for TV I think. I mean lets say the ACC is playing the SEC for the Championship. People are going to watch that on April 10 when the only thing on TV is NBA regular season and MLB regular season

Sure, let's make these kids play more games to fatten the wallets of tv networks and promoters, and pay them nothing for their time and effort. Well, a few trinkets and dinner, maybe. And remember, they are students!

It would be for seniors only and they would be paid to play.
