Congrats to Boyd and Price for making All-ACC First Team

Congrats to all. You will never convince me the 4 safeties on the first 2 teams had better years than Whitehead though.

Only 6 total freshmen made any of the first three teams..... and none made the first team.

Only 2 TRUE freshmen made any of the first three teams.... and Whitehead was one of them. The other one, Derwin James of FSU, was also third team.

There were no true freshmen on either of the first two teams. That says a TON about Jordan Whitehead. Basically, he was one of the two best true freshmen in the entire conference.

Maddux honorable mention?

Who votes on this?

Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA)

I would venture to guess that they collectively understand more about football than the average fan.... especially ones who can't even spell "Maddox".

Thought Whitehead was at least second team. And who didn't vote Boyd as 1st team? Only Cook and Clemson QB unanimous 1st team. Tyler looked to be one vote short

It seems like there was a definite bias against freshmen making the first two teams. None made the first team, and only two (both redshirt freshmen) made the second team (Ollison being one).

So, it wasn't just the coaches thanking him for being so giving?

Maddox is a good college player and will have a chance to make money if he continues to improve. I enjoy these post because it really differentiates who knows anything about the game.

I been saying all along that you really have to judge these d-backs in the context of the modern game and within their assignments, blaming them for a 26-19 loss(against a top 20 team)in which your offense does nothing for the first 30 minutes is just silly.

Boyd got 147 out of a possible 150 points. That means he got 48 votes for first team, one vote for second team, and one vote for third team. Yeah, that means that there is someone out there who thinks that there were at least four wide receivers in the ACC better than Tyler Boyd. And since there were three receivers on each team (four on the second team because of a tie) that means that if the voters actually listed three receivers on each team on their ballot then someone thinks that there were at least six receivers better than Boyd. Anyhow, the fourth highest overall point getter had 132, so there was a pretty big gap between the top three and everyone else.

Price was solidly the second ranked defensive end. Bisnowaty was fourth at tackle, but was actually only five points behind the second highest ranked tackle, so he was close to first team. Johnson was third at guard, but was far away from the top two. Rollie Pollie Ollison was solidly in fourth at running back. Darryl Render was tied for sixth (because of the tie there were three guards on the third team). He was only two points out of fifth, but he was also only three points ahead of the two guys who were tied for eighth. Whitehead was fifth at safety, six points out of fourth. Maddox was ninth at cornerback (there were three honorable mention corners and I think everyone who got at least 20 points in the voting was at least honorable mention).

Or, on Boyd's total that could mean that he got 49 first place votes and one person not only didn't vote him first team, they didn't vote him second team or third team either. That would mean that they thought there were at least NINE receivers in the ACC better than Boyd. Could there be anyone voting on this who was that dumb?

I don't know about the guys that made the first two teams but Whitehead is a freshman AA for sure and played well enough to be a first team all-conference safety in just about any league. Hard to imagine a more productive season from a freshman DB.

He's learned on the job from day 1 and will only get better. However, I can't see him at the next level. He doesn't have the size and stength to play CB in the NFL. The pro outside receivers are freak combos of size, strength, and speed and to have any chance at stopping them the CBs have to win the physical battles at the LOS. I don't see Maddox as a guy who can match up at that level.
