Conner vs. Barkley

Stats-wise, Saquon Barkley and James Conner's career rushing numbers are very similar.

Conner: 668 carries, 3733 yards (5.6 YPC), 52 TDs
Barkley: 653 carries, 3706 yards (5.7 YPC) 41 TDs
That’s a really nice number of TDs

Don’t have the stats but it seemed liked James scored a lot of 10 to 20 yard runs which is tough to do.

He was a special college running that will never be taken from him.
Big time

I am not going to say which RB is better or not better because both were obviously great college RBs but their styles were different. I would gladly take either on my team and not think twice.

What this does show me though is that Conner was much more consistent. And what I mean but that is Barkley had a much higher number of explosive plays than Conner did but their overall YPC are essentially the same.

No comparison at all. JC came up big in big games and carried his team when needed. SB vanished in the big games, he was a non factor against good teams, his yardage is inflated against a crap schedule. He will be another, in the long line of PED-U busts at the next level.

Head to Head in '16 was somewhat even ..... Barkley ran 20 times for 85 yards but had 4 TD's. James ran 22 times for 117 and 1 TD.

Saquon Barkley will have to settle for 3 Heismans, just like Ron Powlus.

Was thinking the same thing.

Just looked it up. In 44 starts he threw 52 TD passes. Not one of Beano’s finest moments, he always seemed to have a Notre Dame fascination.

Seems like UPS did everything they could do to get Barkley to NYC this year- return, more pass routes, RB option passes, playing late in games.

All for publicity. I bet McSorley got chewed out a couple of those read options he kept close to the goal line

Love Conner, but comparing just Barkley's rushing doesn't come close to touching his impact. Both were great college players, but obviously Barkley has a higher floor and ceiling because of his ability in the passing and return games.

F state but that's a tough argument to make when Conner's best record was 8-5 and Barkley's was 10-3 maybe 11-2.

I saw it differently.

Beano was certainly no dummy, and he knew that he was quotable. He's say things that other media-types would run with.

I always thought that Beano's Powlus prediction was a snide way for Beano to lay one on the Irish: while he made it appear that he was praising Powlus and Notre Dame, he was actually setting them up for a perceived failure by raising the bar so high (via his prediction) that the bar was impossible to achieve.

I think the other 84 scholarship players on each team, and the team's strength of schedule, had something to do with team's records.

Again, huge JC fan but Barkley didn’t disappear in the Big 10 championship last year or against USC. Hell, he had a big return against OSU this year. A comparison of the two backs is apples to oranges.

Hard to compare when their teams ran entirely different styles offenses. What could Barkley of done running behind a fullback, blocking tightend and Pitts big oline. What would Conner of done in PSUs RPO offense.I know this is a Pitt board so naturally Conner is a much better back in most opinions. But looking at this with a Wvu view I'd give the nod to Barkley as the better all around back.
