Conner

That's why I always laugh when people cite these track and field statistics. Dri Archer, Chris Rainey... even Che Nwabuko at Pitt.

I mean, yeah - it's good to have speed. But there's a reason these guys are going to Kent State/Pitt or falling to the 5th round.
Thanks, I was having a hard time thinking if some of those infamous prior diminutive change of pace backs that were talked up when acquired. Dri Archer is definitely one that fits the bill.

yes, also known as the 4-9 Cardinals...The Steelers gave him four years. Will the Cardinals do the same? He never gained the now watered down number of 1,000 yards in any of those seasons with the Steelers...If it would be anyone who did not wear a Pitt uniform would you blame them for not re-signing him?
They are 4-9 this year but were top seed last year. I did not blame the Steelers at all but merely pointed out the differences in style between two teams. Oh by the way what is Stillerz record this year?

5-8 but I did not hold them up as a beacon of seeing in something in Conner...btw, Cards were not the top seed...they struggled down the stretch and lost a bunch of games in a row..

He's been injured almost all season from a freak non-football accident in the off-season. He's still just too fragile to be the man but he is a great main back in a committee situation. It is so sad that he finds himself in one of the few worse offenses and behind one of the few worse offensive lines than what he would've had here in Pittsburgh. He's Harris but with better hands, blocking and vision.

I don't know if there were any OL worth taking in Harris' spot but would the scouts that have given us the current crop of slobs been able to find a decent one by some miracle. Actually, the interior 3 have looked respectable these past 3-4 games. We could get by pretty well with 2 OT's maybe?

Since you are from Johnstown we realize you are a closet Nitter.

When healthy, Conner is one of the very few 3-down RBs left in the NFL. Of course his durability has always been a concern, but his role with the Cardinals is as large as any RB in the NFL.

After a cheap one year deal, the Cardinals gave him $21 million 3 year deal, I believe.

I know that deal was panned as being too much but it’s a good deal if you can get a productive 10 or so games from him every year. I’m not sure why they keep getting rid of the other good RB on the roster (Edmonds, Benjamin).

Doesn’t really matter though because they are sunk with Murray and that contract. And their HC.

You realize wrong kid...More pitt fans per capita there than in Pittsburgh. At least it was that way when I left 36 years ago.....kind of a lame comeback. Try again, this time with gusto...

You can count the number of NFL running backs that start and play in all 17 games on one hand. They all get beat up and almost all of them miss games. It’s the nature of the position. There are 10-15 teams that wish they had Conner on their roster.

Why is that? Players haven’t gotten less durable and I don’t think the hits are harder. I guess some of it probably accrues over longer seasons. Or perhaps it’s just that OL are more skilled in pass blocking anymore and RB have less in the way of clean running lanes.

He isn’t durable enough to use as an every down back. But the Steelers use as many as 3 or 4 backs during the course of most games. He could have been fine operating in that stead. The problem with the run game are the same then as they are now; the OL. The backs are solid, as they were then when Conner was among them.

It is fine that they parted ways with JC, but drafting a replacement as a first rounder, while not improving the OL, was and remains a mistake.
Bingo.

James Conner has 20 rushing touchdowns in 25 games with the Cardinals.
That's the most rushing TDs in franchise history for a player in his 1st 25 games with the team.
