Conner???

I love Conner, I really do but I'd rather see what we have with ollison and company from here on out. Maybe a week or two ago but this late into it, with the division race settled, would be counter productive

When will we find out if Conner comes back next year.

I would think it would be in his best interests to return, have a great season, and ride off into the NFL world making big bucks rather than struggle as a low draft choice.

The only way I see him coming back is if he takes out "loss of value" insurance, in case of another injury. It's expensive, but the NCAA now allows players to take out loans based on their potential future earnings to pay for it and I think they also allow the college to pay for it in certain cases.

Jan 18 deadline to declare.

I think he'll be back. Lot of good RBs coming out this year and I honestly think he;s the kind of kid who will want to come back and be a part of what's going on at Pitt right now. Unless he projects as first or high to mid second round, I think he stays. Right now he's projected as a 3rd-4th rounder.

Is it me or has every other football player in the history of the game, had a much shorter recovery time with an MCL injury, over our boy JC here? Bad luck or what?

Hypothetically, if Boyd and Conner came back, we start the year in the Top 10.........but they're not.

Yeah it seems like an eternity for this type of injury - agree. Maybe Pitt knows he's planning on returning next year and don't want to take any chances. Hmmmmm...

no, I think that would be in the best interest of a loyal Pitt fan and not his.....These NFL guys have enough on him (kid from that Curtis Martin school, right? that kid only had one year)... He was a round 2-4 type before this year and he is probably a round 3-5 type after. Best scenario playing another year back to 2-4 rounds....Imo, not in HIS best interest at all....

This quote is from 2 weeks ago on WalterFootball, who lists Conner as their #7 RB in the 2016 draft:
"11/7/15: Conner tore his ACL and is out for the season. He probably would be better served returning to Pittsburgh for a season before going pro."

CBSSports lists Conner as the #7 Junior RB and projects him to the 2017 draft. They project 5 of the 6 Juniors ahead of him to go in the 2016 draft (OSU's Elliott, Alabama's Henry, ND's Prosise, UCLA's Perkins, Arkansas' Collins), plus 3 juniors from non-P5 schools (Toledo, SD State, WVU).

DraftTek does not list Conner among its RB's projected to enter the NFL in 2016.

Clearly a strong source considering they can't even get his injury correct...

well if they (the good folks at WalterFootball, whatever that is) actually knew what his injury was (MCL and not ACL--big, big difference) I would probably value their expert opinion more....

agreed. this injury usually isn't a season ender when it happens so early in the season.

If Conner enters the 2016 Draft, he's likely the 7th to 10th RB selected since he was just injured and there are a lot of good backs coming out, which puts him around Round 4 or 5 -- bottom half of Round 3 if everything falls correctly.

If Conner enters the 2017 Draft (and assuming he has a successful season proving the injury won't linger into the NFL), he only has Fournette and Chubb in front of him, so he would be firmly slotted into Round 2 at worst.

Of course other RB's could come out of the woodwork next year, but Conner's combination of size, athleticism, toughness, and proven production is extremely rare, so it's highly unlikely it suddenly appears in a 3rd or 4th year college RB who bumps Conner much further back of Fournette and Chubb.

It depends on what degree the mcl tear was.
That said, its seeming more and more his draft analysis at least will say recommend return.

There is also a question as to his receiving skills out of the backfield, as he was never used in the passing game before. Combine drills against pylons don't show what kind of a receiver a back is, only if he has adequate hands. That's a big part of the skillset for a NFL RB. Getting Conner some receptions was going to be a focal point for Chaney this year--if ti worked out, it would have helped the offense and helped JC's draft stock at the same time. That was actually discussed by Chaney before the season.

Don't be surprised if NFL teams are looking at him as a DE. He could explode in the NFL at DE the way AD did at DT. His draft position as a DE is then not defined by this year's RB pecking order.

I admit I'd be surprised. He hasn't played DE since hs. He's way behind the other players at that position.

He did play a few plays at DE in college. But not enough to matter.

On the radio pregame Saturday they said he wasn't even close to returning, can't see how that changes in a short week.

He hasn't practiced even one day since the injury. Even if he was cleared this week, which he hasn't been, how much could anyone who hasn't practiced even one play in months play by Friday?

Not quite... He had surgery. Meaning it was significant and they are looking forward toward his professional career and want to minimize any question of instability. With a "typical" mcl sprain , yes it's possible to be back anywhere from four to 8 weeks
