Earn Priority Points Through Contributions to Alliance 412

Pitt Athletics and the Panther Club are excited to announce that, effective immediately*, all contributions to Alliance 412—the official NIL collective of Pitt Athletics—are now eligible to earn Panther Club Priority Points.

In our continued collaboration to Build Champions athletically and academically, Panther Club members will now receive 1 Priority Point for every $50 contributed** to Alliance 412. The purpose of this initiative is to highlight the various avenues available for supporters to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Pitt student-athletes and ensure our athletic programs are positioned for success. Whether a Panther Club member, season ticket holder, or Alliance 412 member, we recognize and want to show appreciation for the loyalty of those committed to the success of our current and future student-athletes.

"We are so grateful for our partnership with Alliance 412 and the generous members of the Pitt community that have stepped up to support our student-athletes," said Executive Associate Athletic Director for Philanthropy & Engagement, Lee Roberts. "By offering Panther Club Priority Points for contributions to Alliance 412, we hope it encourages more of our passionate fans to support our Championship goals and enjoy the benefits of membership in the Panther Club."

To receive Priority Points for contributions to Alliance 412, you must be a current Panther Club member. Priority Points are used to determine rank among donors, rewarding loyalty, season ticket holder longevity and philanthropic giving. This point system influences seat selection, parking, and ticket allocations for away or postseason competition. Contributions to Alliance 412 provide a new channel for Panther Club members to support Pitt Athletics while increasing their priority point total and gaining access to both Panther Club and Alliance 412 member benefits.

To learn more about Alliance 412 and contribute, please visit www.alliance412.com.

For questions regarding Panther Club membership or the Priority Points system, please visit HailtoPitt.com or contact the Panther Club at pantherclub@athletics.pitt.edu or 412.648.8889.

*Priority points will be retroactively added for Panther Club members who have been supporting Alliance 412 efforts on and/or after the state ruling on July 17, 2024.

**Contributions to Alliance 412 do not qualify as charitable donations to the University.

Alliance 412
Alliance 412 is an independent, Limited Liability Company formed by University of Pittsburgh supporters to provide innovative Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities to current and future stars of the Pitt athletic program. By contributing to Alliance 412, you are helping Pitt student-athletes monetize their NIL rights and receive fair compensation for their contributions to the program.

I don’t particularly remember any specific identifier I provided to Alliance that would connect them with my panther club points. Just my name and credit card I think.

Frankly, once the schools start handling their own NIL deals, where does that leave entities like Alliance 412? If I am making an NIL donation, I am going to make to the entity that will give ma a tax deduction.

How is any of the donations to the alliance validated as going to athletes ?
Seems like too much faith in a third party to me .

I know for a fact that people I know in the athletic department knew of a modest donation I made to A412.

You dont get a tax deduction for Panther Club donations any more. Also, you dont get a tax deduction for any contribution to charity anymore unless itemize your deductions, which doesn't make sense anymore for anyone except like 12 people.

Only one category of donations to the Panther Club are not tax deductible: contributions for seating requirements (the scholarship seating requirements).

Every other category of donation to the Panther Club....to championship funds (that support individual sports teams), the general student athlete success fund, Victory Heights or other facilities....is completely tax deductible.

To suggest otherwise is patently false and absolutely asinine. It isn't first time this same poster has posted flat out false information about this.

Well to stick up for him, what he is saying is that for the vast majority of Pitt fans it does not make sense to itemize your deductions on your tax return, because since they raised the standard deduction it is more advantageous for most people to simply take the standard deduction. And if you are taking the standard deduction then it doesn't really matter if you donate say $1,000 to Pitt or not as far as your taxes go, because you will pay the same either way.

Only about 10% of taxpayers itemize their deductions, and if you are one of the 90% not itemizing your deductions then a donation to Pitt (or anyone else for that matter) will not affect the amount of income tax that you pay.

No, he's not just saying that. And he flat out wrong about it before and was corrected previously.

I itemize every other year because I stack my donations for two university fiscal years (among other gifts) in one calendar year. Do I count as one of the 10%? Or am I part of the 20% that actually does it sensibly?

Actually he is saying that, because he has said exactly that before. He completely misunderstood why it is the way that it is, but he was correct in saying that if, like the vast majority of Americans, you do not itemize your deductions then you do not get a tax break for making a donation. Any donation.

If you itemize your deductions every other year, then the year that you itemize you are a part of the 10%, and in the year that you do not you are a part of the 90%. Is that really a difficult concept to understand?

So the average could be 20% over a single university fiscal period, and it also assumes that the financial tax demographic of people that donate to university athletics is identical to the entire US population filing tax returns, which of course, it is obviously not, as people giving to university athletics are much more likely to be in a demographic that is likely to itemize. Is that really hard to understand? Which is why his statements are both false specifically regarding what is tax deducible and why the other statement about "12 people" itemizing are complete bs, like 99% of all of his statements.

The rise in the standard deduction did not change the nature of what "tax deductible" means. Words matter. His words were false before. They are false again. And of course, someone who boasts of their lack of support for the athletic program rushes to the defense of the indefensible.

Nobody itemizes anymore after the 2017 tax law changes. Probably something like 95% or more of individual contributions to a charity do not get "written off." If you itemize, you are one of the very few.

I'd have thought that someone who thinks so highly of their intellectual abilities would understand hyperbole. But I guess not. I apologize for assuming that something so easy to understand didn't go right over your head.

If this is referring to me, rest assured that I have donated more money to Pitt athletics over a longer period of time than you have. And my guess is that it's not even close.

The only thing Paco has donated more of over the years is condescending comments.

Hey CP,

Question for you. What do the priority points get you? I know I had 10 points for being getting a letter at a varsity sport and having season tickets... I honestly never used the points though. What does it get you?

Thanks

When you have a group who tailgates you can pool your points to move to a better lot for everyone .

More or less, it means that more points = higher up on the priority list. Say Pitt makes the playoff and has a road game at Penn State in the first round. Pitt will probably get a few thousand tickets for the visitor’s allotment. The Panther Club member with 1,000 points will get the opportunity to buy those tickets before the member with 100 points.

Factually correct and incorrect at the same time.

Facts about points and allocation for away tix.

Incorrect and false statement about playoff game at psu...that game will be at the ACK because we will be higher ranked than state penn

Can't do that anymore since the repark.
Sure you can .
Our group does it
You just have to request it and provide the priority points of each member who
Is going to buy a pass .
Then you meet up and drive in together . Or at least a few cars .
I always show up later and walk to meet.

They told us during the repark you couldn't do that anymore. Maybe they relaxed the policy after.
