The thing about Maverick is he's a 2 year guy in the very least and probably stays 3 years, maybe even 4. A lot of bigger programs think highly enough of him.

Hid dad did play major D1 ball and has coaching experience (ok, wpial a ball as an assistant but still). Wouldn't it be worth it to bring his dad on if Maverick was part of the package? He is after all the highest ranked local recruit in a generation. And as a side bonus, his younger brother will become a recruitable athlete as he'll be around HS age if Mav stays 4 years.

Whether its Ashton or Ron Rowan, Pitt really needs to think outside the box to land top-tier talent.

Free country and allowed to hire anyone you want. Other programs do it so why not PITT?

Okay, you hire Ron Rowan and then Maverick comes, then what? Being a WPIAL class A assistant coach doesn't show much about coaching ability... does he just stand around and let everyone know he did his job by delivering Maverick, and maybe his younger son turns into a player too? What if his other son is Terence Mullin (157 points in 66 games over 4 seasons at St. John's) to Maverick's Chris? Is it worth it?

Just get out there and start busting it in NY/NJ/Philly/DC again... there is more than enough guard talent in 2016 for them to not grab a few in those areas... TJ Gibbs, Tony Carr, Rawle Alkins, Markelle Fultz, Curtis Jones, Bryce Aiken, Devonte Green, Lamar Stevens, Shamarie Ponds, Unique McLean, Ray Salnave...

If you think Dixon needs to hire assistants who are better recruiters, how could you possibly advocate for Mr. Rowan as one of the coaches?

They don't need to hire him as a coach necessarily. He does sales for Adidas, correct? Throw him in the development (fundraising) department. Similar skill set.

According to multiple Twitter reports -Rowan played for a Nike team last night & Dixon was among the coaches present. Dont know this changes anything, but it comes at an interesting point for Pitts program.

The VC position is a bogus job. All it is is the lowest paid assistant coach, a step between grad assistant and a regular assistant coach. Cut up some game film, do a littme coaching, whatever, its an unimportant job. Pitt has 13 scholarship players, a head coach and 3 assistants. Thats morw than enough coaches. The VC job has got to become a package job and had to go to Ron Rowan or Gibbs. Both played major D1 ball. How bad coukd they possibly be at coordianting video?

Let me ask you this, if Pitt had 3 choices for the VC job and the candidates were Gibbs, Rowann, and the #1 coordinator of video in the country, who would you choose?

Agree with WBR as well. Rowan's dad may be a great shoes salesman, but in the interest of looking out for his son I can't help but wonder if all his influence was positive. To answer SeanMillerFan - I would choose Gibbs under the premise Pitt lands his brother.
