Article Coulibaly comes to Pitt after making history

In the 40-year history of the FIBA U19 World Cup, no team from the continent of Africa had ever made the quarterfinals.

That changed this year when Pitt freshman Karim Coulibaly and his countrymen from Mali got past the knockout phase and into the round of eight.

This is an informative article. It shows Coulibaly in a very good light as both a
player and a person. I was impressed with how this article shows his approach
to the FIBA World Cup.

There's been a lot of discussion on this board about how he'll do here at Pitt,
and where he'll play. As far as the "where".... I believe he's a forward and will
play at that spot. I can't imagine him at the 5 unless Capel goes with a 1-4.
When and if Capel does go 1-4, Brown and Hamilton will get the majority of
those minutes IMO. I see him on the floor alongside of Brown or Hamilton.
How many minutes he gets? I have no idea at this point, neither does anyone
else. Capel will undoubtedly experiment with different combinations in Italy,
and we'll have a much better idea after that.
As for now, I'm glad we have him. I feel he's gonna be a very good addition
to this team. He doesn't have to be rushed on to the floor as was the
case with some of our players. It'll be interesting to see what Capel does
with this.

I think he’s going to play at least a few minutes at the five. Hell, last year we had Malik Ellison playing there for short periods; I don’t see Coulibaly as being less effective at the five in short bursts than Ellison or even Chukwuka were last year.

I don’t think it’ll happen a lot, and it might only happen when Brown and/or Hamilton get themselves into foul trouble...but it’ll happen for at most five or so minutes a game.

Yup we did see Ellison there....and it was a disaster. Capel tried him there against
Syracuse because the high post against a zone needs a player who can catch,
pass out of the post, and hit the foul line jumper. Considering Brown's play and
Chuka's as well, I can see why Capel tried it. Capel was desperate and tried whatever
he could, even using Ellison. He won't be desperate this year IMO.
Using Coulibaly in "short bursts" as you said .....Ok I'll go with you on that, at least
as a possibility. However, I do believe he's a four and will be used that way.
Just my take on it at this point.....I'm waiting for the Italy trip to really tell us.
