@typical_todd: What's your predicted starting 5 for Pitt basketball next year?

Next season's team is going to be almost unrecognizable, so that makes this a tricky-yet-fun exercise. Here's my best guess:

G — Aaron Thompson

G — Marcus Carr

G — Cam Johnson

F — Ryan Luther

F/C — ?

First off the bench — Jared Wilson-Frame

Leaving that last spot blank is a bit of a cop-out, but I think whoever may have that place in the lineup either isn't on the team yet or, based on scouting reports, doesn't seem ready for a starting role at this point. Rozelle Nix is the big man, aside from Luther, I'm most confident will be back next season, but unless he improves to the point where conditioning and foul trouble don't limit him to a few minutes of playing time, I can't put him among that group of starters.

I'd be surprised if Corey Manigault is back next season. Terrell Brown and Peace Ilegomah (especially) are, based on what you read and see about them, a bit raw and in need of some time to develop, which isn't all that uncommon for freshman big men. That's not to say, though, that one of them (more likely Brown), would be thrown in the proverbial deep end.

The transfer market — whether it's grad transfers or regular ones — is going to open up in the next couple of weeks, though obviously a traditional transfer would have to sit out next season. There's also the possibility of adding a junior-college player. We could arrive at the point where it doesn't necessarily make sense to force a lesser player into a role that requires major minutes just because they fit a certain position. Stallings was adamant this season that he wanted his five best players on the court to start, regardless of height, so we could see the inverse of that next season, with four perimeter players and Ryan Luther anchoring the middle.
