It has to be. No program with the type of history and talent that Pitt has can crap the bed this much with so many different coaches. And then these coaches leave and mysteriously start winning big time.

It's just to uncanny and too unfair...

Its uncanny. Really. Narduzzi was mostly holding it down, but its back. Carolina only had the ball 19 minutes.

There are no such things as curses. That kind of talk is a loser bullshit excuse. The problem is the institutional culture. Players don't believe in themselves, don't believe they should win games against more talented opponents, so they fold like a cheap suit. Losing breeds losing, and even talented players with track records of success at the high school level buy into the narrative that Pitt is a second-rate program. The coaches buy into it as well -- play not to lose, because we aren't capable of winning.

It's embarrassing and pathetic and seemingly endemic.

Ummm... I must have missed the part where Foge, Gottfried, Hackett, JM2, Wlat and Wanny became successful coaches after being booted from Pitt. Unle

You're right. It is quite evident the entire secondary is whipped. They don't play the ball - not one of them made a play on a ball that could have turned into an interception. They play the man. Tackle the guy after the catch. It must be what they are taught - which is why if they brought in one of the younger guys you would see the same thing. So why bother?

I chuckle at threads like this... Please take a hard look at other programs and stop living in a Pitt football vacuum...

Think about this. Last week and this week, the number of passes the oppositon threw-I'm not sure we actually broke up more than 1 or 2=whatever passes weren't completed were due to the QB misfiring,.

Because our fan base and alumni support has been mediocre at best, so why do we deserve better?
Last I knew none of the fans make bonehead plays on the field. Support has nothing to do with not getting better players.

The return of "Pitting", some thought it was over, it never goes away. That ending didn't surprise me, I was expecting it as the clock ran down. It was a typical Pitt outcome, a tradition that happens a few times a year, often in spectacular fashion! LOL

we are in a pro-city, where fans are used to winners. Check out the Pirate attendance recently. If you don't win, the fans tune you out. It is a fact of life in Pittsburgh (or Miami, or Los Angeles). This isn't Lincoln Nebraska

Yeah it sucks that it happens so much, but just look around. Might not even be the point you were trying to make it, but this kind of stuff happens in college games every single week, every single year.

It just seems to happen to Pitt at the worst times. When they are so close to getting over the hump. I've always had hope that after all the heartbreak we will be rewarded one day. I really don't know anymore though, this year's team just about makes me think this program will never be anything ever again.

True, it happens every week, to everyone, all the time, but who is on the losing end of stunning finishes more often? How often do we fight back to come out on top? The Duke game 2 years ago? Oh wait, we missed the 26 yard FG to win and lost in OT, vs. #1 ND for the big upset? Oh wait, missed 33 yard FG, fumbled the XP snap, lose to Cincy 45-44 blowing a 31-7 lead, the list is endless.

Read a article before last season and Pitt was at the top for number of close losses. Fact is Pitt loses far more than their share of these types of games. Basically you would expect a team at Pitt's level, slightly above .500, to win around half our close games over a period of 5 to 10 years. I don't know exactly how many years the article included but it was around 4 or 5 years. I would bet you would get the same result if you took the last 16 years. Pitt would be near the top for poorest record in one score games. That is a trend without any real explanation. Except Pitting or Pitt is cursed. I think JOEPA, who had already sold his soul to the devil, made satan agree to curse Pitt in exchange for Joe's continued allowing of ruining young mens lives.
