Before the league is entitely gutted in July, its been an unbelievable last year for CUSA. FAU in the Final Four. North Texas and UAB will play for the NIT Championship. Those 3 will be off to the American along with Charlotte, Rice, and UTSA. CUSA, a once proud league of Louisville, Cincinnati, Marquette, Memphis, Houston and others will be reduced to:

Western Kentucky
Florida International
UTEP
Louisiana Tech
Liberty
Middle Tennessee State
Sam Houston State
Jacksonville State
New Mexico State
Kennesaw State

It was a great last hurrah for CUSA as we know it.

Personally, I have no sympathy for FIU, La Tech, MTSU, and WKU. They all left the Sun Belt to die in the early 2010s and now they’re stuck in the FBS equivalent of no man’s land while the SBU has become one of the best G5 conferences.

Yes, its one of the more interesting occurrences. They left the Sun Belt for the better conference but now the Sun Belt has overtaken CUSA and they are stuck. The Sun Belt doesn't forget.

But fortunately the Sun Belt didn't die ... how do you feel about Pitt? The football conference it left actually did die.

Technically it didnt. It just got renamed. Its called the American Athletic Conference. South Florida (and Temple if you count them) are the only teams left from when it was called the Big East.

That’s a fair argument. Unlike those schools, at least we tried to save the conference first before we abandoned it. Heck, had it not been for us, the Big East likely dies ~10 years earlier after the initial ACC raid.

I’m not going to diss a school for chasing the money because that’s what everyone was doing. But there’s also irony with the way it unfolded in some cases, including C-USA/the Sun Belt.

Edit: I was actually a big fan of that original Sun Belt. Troy, UL-Lafayette and Monroe, UNT, FIU/FAU, MTSU, and WKU (plus La Tech before they moved to the WAC) was a fun conference to watch.
