Obviously the Hawaii loss hurts, but I think these two road conference games (Virginia Tech and Wake Forest) hurt worse. Not that the topic is even relevant, but just sharing my opinion The Hawaii loss is what it is. I think the committee would just look at that as a fluky game. A non-conference road game across the country before a long and important trip set that game up as a no-win situation.
The Hawaii game was just one of those nights. They never really had a chance. At VT and Wake, Pitt had significant lead situations in the second half of a game, and couldn't put either one away. On the other side of it, Pitt was lucky to win at Boston College. Either way, at least one of those two games and Pitt is in a much better spot. Conference record is always very significant as well, especially in the ACC.
Last night really hurts. It wasn't necessarily the death blow, but the margin for error is now 0. They have to win these next two, and probably at least one in the tournament. If the Panthers do win the next three games, it should make for an interesting Selection Show. If they can win a second game at the ACC Tournament, I would have to think they get in with four more wins.
