I don’t know how to describe this, but they are playing usf, and USF is rolling the call up court to save time. Hurley is basically in the court, stomping his feet around, acting like he is running at the player..honestly I feel it should have been a technical foul.

Hopefully more than one recruit is a center. They won't all be enamored with the thought of playing together. In that case I wouldn't mind the leftovers...

Those of you comparing a program that has won 4 national titles over the past 20 years to Pitt are dumber than a box of rocks. Probably the same box of rocks that thought Dixon wasn’t good enough for Pitt.
Its just that troll that changes his name everyday.

UCONN has the name and is all about their basketball. They won a title only 5 years ago. They haven't been a dweller ACC program for 3 straight seasons. Yes, they play in the AAC, but Hurley is really selling UCONN quite well in his just almost a year there. You'd think the allure of the ACC will be captivating to some recruits, so we shall see.

The AAC is a conference to watch. UConn would trade places with us (or any P5) in a heartbeat, but the basketball in that conference is really on the rise. As UConn and Memphis get back, I wouldn’t be shocked if the AAC passes the Big East in terms of overall talent. There’s a lot of potential in programs like Houston/UCF/USF that is starting to be unlocked.

As for Dan, he’s a passionate guy and isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but he’s a heck of a coach. I maintain he’d have been an absolute hero locally due to his fire. As some have mentioned, a quick look at where their recruiting is at says a lot about his abilities. He’ll have that program rolling pretty quickly

Recruiting to a 4-Time National Championship Name Program is a heck of a lot easier than recruiting to a team that has been in last place in the ACC. Hurley would be struggling to recruit here.

I told you to go that way you dummy!

Maybe easier but not a "heck of a lot easier." These kids want to play for a cool coach, a fun style, and make the NBA. Unless you are Duke, UNC, UK, or KU, they really dont care much about how successful the program was in the past

Hurley may end up having a better team than Pitt but IMO his coaching antics are an embarrassment. Capel appears to be a class act and given some time we'll be back in the tourney. GO PITT!

Literally nobody compared Pitt and Uconn before you posted this.

They're certainly not going to pass the ACC, but the Pac-12 should be concerned. Pomeroy says the average AAC team is about 0.5 points better than the average P12 team this year. Still 4 points behind the average BE team.

The SEC has actually done a remarkable job in cleaning up their act after being a joke league for years and years.

Absolutely. The ACC/SEC/B10 are in a class of their own, but after that you have B12, P12, BE, and AAC that will probably move around based on strength at the time. As I referenced earlier, there’s a ton of untapped potential in AAC schools that were elevated due to realignment (Houston/UCF/USF) and once you get the traditional powers rolling that’s going to be a fun league to watch.

Not to be argumentative, but since when has being an embarrassment been a barrier to winning? As I recall, Indiana had a coach who was a national embarrassment, and he did quite well in spite of being pointed at and sneered about in the media.

We can name other coaches (in other sports besides NCAA basketball) where the coach wasn't "likable", but in the overall scheme of things, it's all about the W's.

Digressing, but I read an article this weekend where a local IU writer insinuated that Knight is suffering from either dementia or Alzheimer's and is not doing well.

I could not stand him as a HC, but loved him as an analyst/color guy on ESPN.

Danny Hurley would not have come here, he was using Pitt as leverage. He would not be permitted to recruit effectively here, including hiring the right assistants, incorporating boosters & alumni in the recruiting process, and leveraging sneaker company influencers. Conversely, Jeff Capel would be bringing in the same type of 4 and 5 star recruits if he was hired at UConn that Hurley will, for the same reasons. The UConn pedigree helps as well, in addition to being an institution and region where basketball is king and players are treated royally. Swallow the red pill, it tastes sour at first but is more satisfying after the fact.

Have you seen ESPN’s “30 for 30” on Bob Knight? I honestly didn’t mind the guy - that is, until I watched the “30 for 30”. The feature revealed a lot that I’d forgotten, or hadn’t heard before.

I was wondering, because I haven't seen or heard anything from him in awhile.

Agree, I was standing next to him waiting on my luggage in Austin airport. Told him i enjoyed his work on TV. He talked to me for a good 10-15 minutes and didn't rush to get away. Nice guy in that situation anyway.

Not saying being an embarrassment does hinder winning. Just stating my preference and support for Capel and disdain for Hurley.

Point well taken. But I’d guess that the majority of Pitt fans would tolerate an obnoxious coach if he was a bonafide winner. Winning can buy a lot of lenience.

I'm trying to think of one College or Pro coach that fits this description in my time WPA , probably the closest I can conjure up is Paul Evans, and that is a stretch, because he is not that far down/up the continuum in either category, some were ready to embrace Fraud Graham, but he was just a vapor trail (to be polite)

Narduzzi is entering the obnoxious territory-
But without the winning

Without thinking too hard, there are the Harbaughs - Jim and John.
