Doing possibly the best coaching job I've ever seen. There's going to be a lot of ACC openings and this would be an absolute slam dunk hire that would strengthen the league. It wont be easy to pry him from WVU but you need to make him see no. Are you listening Miami, UVa, VT, GT, UNC, Syr, etc?

Highly doubtful he leaves WVU after a year. If he's going to leave WVU, his next move would most likely be to Iowa, imo.

I don't see the UNC, Cuse, and Georgia Tech jobs becoming open. Not sure what is going to happen at VaTech. From what I've heard they have the weakest NIL game in the ACC & very little desire to change that.

If UVA goes in another direction, which I think is likely, but not certain, I'm sure DeVries will get a call. I think Shaka is at the top of UVA's wish list, but I don't see him leaving Marquette. There are whispers that Shaka is the one candidate that UVA would break the bank for, as he checks every box the WaHoo power brokers seem to be looking for. I would have loved to have Mark Byington at UVA too, but the ship probably sailed on that one a year early too. The conventional thought down here is that Ryan Odom will be at UVA next year.

FWIW, most of the chatter around the Miami job seems to be focused on Will Wade.

Will Wade at Miami is a match made in heaven. There couldn't be a more perfect fit. With Miami's money, Wade will have them as a Top 2/3 ACC program as early as next year.

Shaka isnt leaving home to go to UVa, where NIL is an issue just because he coached at VCU 15 years ago. Marquette spends big. Devries probably doesnt leave WVU after 1 year but he's an elite coach in a weird spot. Crazy geographic league, crummy town, no ties to the area, not sure WVU is going to spend on bbball as they go all in on football. They only bought 1 guy this off-season as they went super cheap. They have maybe the lowest player payroll in the P4.

Mike Young is a really good coach. I cant believe he is winning games with Robert Morris level talent. But I think VT has decided they are done with basketball. Cant pay players so maybe they ride him out.

GT, Syr, and UNC may not open but you never know.

I don't think Shaka would leave Marquette for Virginia either. But some of the scribes that cover UVA hoops are reporting that if it's decided that UVA is going to move on from Bennett ball, that they are going to attempt to money whip Shaka and make him tell them no. Take that for what it's worth. When it comes to reporting on coaching searches, especially months in advance, there's probably some tiny nuggets of truth mixed in with mostly speculation & opinion.

However, you're totally missing the boat on why UVA covets Shaka & why he would choose to stay at Marquette. Shaka is a culture & development guy. He rejects the portal as much as possible & he doesn't really go to bat for his players to get big bags. Marquette doesn't spend big & Shaka only makes around $3 million per year. Almost the entire Marquette roster is made up of guys who were borderline Top 100 players. Keep in mind, that's a job that Buzz Williams left for Blacksburg, VA. Marquette hasn't exactly been a destination job.

Do we really want to ACC to be better? We're 3-4 in its current iteration. I don't know if I need to see even more guys coach circles around Capel.

I get the logic is to strengthen league perception/NET so we could fare similarly in it and make the tournament. But I think we might be overlooking an important detail, here: if the league is better, we won't fare similarly in it.

Dream Team is struggling again tonight. You have to wonder about some possibly carryover friction between Bird and Jordan after that heated showdown for the Big Mac in that McDonald's commercial.

They were down 42-18 at the half against a 7-11 team. I could probably round up four guys at McBride Park in Lincoln Place and we wouldn't fare much worse than that.

They are so bad. Have no idea how they beat the Celtics, Bucks, and everyone else. Again, last year's team was more talented. I really feared they would go 2-16 and that was with the son. He ain't there and they are still an NCAAT lock. I'd like to see an academic study on how they win because their players are ass.
