David Tepper sets record with big commitment to the Panthers!

Would have been better spent with the Pitt Panthers.

Seems that the NFL is going in the wrong direction for such an investment.

we have a multi billionaire who loves pitt football, has a pitt helmet on his desk for Christ sakes, loves donating money, loves athletics, I mean all the damn variables you need for a perfect situation except for that little one of him actually writing a check with Pitt's name on it..

That's why I say its so Pitt. He checks every single box of what to look for in a mega-donor.

He wrote a check to CMU for $100+ million.

Could have been Pitt's Boone Pickens. But... they were twiddling there thumbs for 20 years with the Heinz debacle.

Idiots.

unqualified person and under staffed the alumni donation aspect of the athletic dept for decades..

I'm told on here that people should blindly write checks and not take the competency of those in charge into account.

Just out of curiosity, is the Astros owner, Drayton McLane a dummy for building Baylor a new stadium when they already had one?
Don't know or care. Waco isn't Oakland. Although Chip & Joanna like it....looks like a nothingburger to me.

Tepper doesn't believe an on campus stadium feasible due to a lack of space and infrastructure. It has been said he would give the green light for it if it were.

Of course, that's what Pitt has told him because they made it the case.

He gave a million to be split between academics and athletics for scholarships. Then he gave $100 million to CMU.

He definitely has the means to pay for a stadium, but the Pitt admin has been busy finding reason why they can't do it for almost 20 years now. There is absolutely space to build a new stadium, but Pitt admins Pitting has resulted in Pitt getting a little, and others getting a ransom.

It's not going to change. Pitt can't get out of their own way. DontD exect anytbing different. They should be planning a big mega ask from their weathiest alum who happens to be a football fan. Instead, they are likely abiut to ask him for for another million to endow some scholarships.

Stadium is far from a priority.
Endowing scholarships is far more beneficial.

He's probably had the same issue until now that every potential donor has had with Pitt....idiots with questionable commitment to athletics making the decisions....maybe that's changed.

Why would you say such a thing??
Because it's true. Pitt doesn't need to spend half a billion on a stadium. It'd be dereliction of duty. Ain't happening.
BTW, I was adamantly against razing Pitt Stadium because I knew we;d never have an on campus place of our own.

This is why SP should be ridiculed for all of time. He permanently screwed over Pitt football.

he is ridiculed all the time, doesn't change the fact that he got the better of us, twice. not to mention a 2M dollar "you'll be fired within 2 months after I retire so take this and run" check from his buddy Nordy.

Truth hurts

You want the truth? Here it is.

Pitt is and will continue to be a second (third?) fiddle type football prgroam, getting 5-7 wins every year while fans complain about PSU and WVU going to big-time bowl games, while Pitt eeaks out bowl eligibility in from of 40,000 empty yellow seats at Heinz.

Yep. The truth does hurt

dude, we went 5-7 once, we won 8 regular season games the two years before that. relax man, if we do this back to back, then lets start considering this the norm but as of now, that abortion of a year last year was the exception.

40,000 empty seats? Heinz holds 68k, so you really think only 28,000 people show up? You're being ridiculous. nothing about your post holds any truth whatsoever.

relax, take the emotion out of it.

Attendance and stadium location are NOT the 2 primary reasons PITT has been a 7-8 win team over the past 20 years.

I am quite relaxed. Pitt has already taken the emotion out of it for me, so that certainly isn't the problem. I am now free to see things as they really are, instead of hoping for the best year after year to eternity.

Ok. 5-8 wins in front of 25,000 - 30,000 empty seats most games. Better?

I remember when Pitt won 5-8 games (or less) per year while playing in front of 25,000-30,000 empty seats (or more) at an on campus stadium
