Bub vs Lowe - even
Leggett vs Leggett - even
Austin vs Austin - slightly better this year
Hinson vs GDG - massive downgrade
Fede vs Corhen - even

Bench
Lowe ve Dunn - last year
GDG vs Kante - last year

Been saying all year that last year's team was better and Capel's best. Hinson was too big of a loss. We didnt upgrade the defense/rebounding and badly miss his offense. That said, its not over. Our win over a weirdly incredibly good WVU team if straight-up bums plus at OSU has us in position as long as we can beat some medicore ACC teams.....which we haven't done yet.

Torvik PPRG This year vs. Last Year
Stats settle it
Lowe 4.0 vs Bub 3.4 - upgrade
Leggett 3.8 vs Leggett 3.1 upgrade
Austin 3.1 vs. Austin 2.0 - upgrade
Dunn 2.8 vs. Everyone else (Jeffress) upgrade
Corhen 3.0 vs. Fede 1.5 - upgrade
Cummings 2.0 vs. Lowe 2.1 equal
GDG 1.3 vs. GDG 1.9 - downgrade
JDG 1.8 vs. JDG 0.8 - upgrade

It’s really Hinson 4.4 that is the lone downgrade, coupled with GDG being much worse. The same position with a double whammy. But they lost 3 straight q1 games (two on the road). Big whoop. Still much better than last year.

I'm sorry, but the eye test doesn't lie.

The problem is that they have significantly downgraded at the 5, and they instead believe that they’ve upgraded. Until that fundamental disparity is addressed, this is what we will continue to see.

Fede was pretty bad last year, lets not forget. He has improved this year. Averaging 7.7 and 4.9 in 19.4 MPG. Corhen is playing 10 minutes more per game and only getting 1 rebound more. He's averaging 10.4 and 5.9 so he's rebounding at a worse rate than Fede. Fede also rebounded better at Pitt than Corhen is rebounding this year. He averaged 5.2 rebounds last year in 21 minutes.

You are right. They are 3-5 in q1/2 so far with no q3/4 losses right now. Last time this year they were 0-5 in q1/2 and a Q3 loss at this point in the season last year. #facts

Last years team did significantly turn a corner at this time last year. Let’s wait a little longer before calling this season a bust.

Some of that is luck and scheduling. WVU has roughly the same amount of talent as last year but made a massive coaching upgrade. We beat them early and that win looks better than it should be. OSU isnt that good and we were outplayed for most of that game.

I dont disagree. I am just saying, compared to this exact time, that is the outcome. Last year's team did make significant improvement starting this time last year. That remains to be seen this seen. If they don't, they will be a bubble team. If they improve like last year, we are looking for a 6-9 seed.

Last year might as well have been the tale of two seasons, so I'm not sure that full-season statistics paint an accurate depiction. And the "at this point in the season" comparisons are especially useless.

Lowe and Bub were true freshmen, and Austin and Leggett hadn't played on a power conference team before, so it seems a little more excusable that it took them a while to acclimate and makes more sense that there was a pretty clear point where they figured some things out.

I have a tougher time believing this year's team isn't just what you see is what you get. What could happen that would be crazily transformative at this point?

Yes, its a big remain to be seen. Two years ago it was Elliott emerging. Last year, Lowe finally got healthy.
But this year, what can emerge.? Maybe JDG continues hitting 3's at an insane rate and offsets his poor D? Does cummings make a mid-season leap like Lowe or Bub? There needs to be lineup tweaks. Clemson isnt the team to experiment with, but no reason to give Dunn 30 minutes on an 0-8 shooting night.

I would say sitting Hugley down was the seminal moment from two years ago.

At any rate, we're 12 days away from knowing if it's even worth watching any more games this season.

Sitting Corhen and playing Jorge more could possibly be that "since Kante, Jorge, etc was inserted into the starting lineup, our record is 12-2 or whatever."

2 things we know. Corhen aint it. Gotta see if Kante can at least rebound and defend better. Jorge needs to get major minutes.

For what ever reason, neither the Pitt basketball and or football programs cannot reach the next level. And they are both stuck in mediocrity, Pitt is Pitt and always be Pitt. I will be at the Clemson game on Saturday, could be the last time I show up at a pitt basketball or football game, it’s been a long, long time

Pitt basketball is far ahead of Pitt football.

Dumb. Lol.

That was a trash dumpster wvu team we beat. Them winning some games after that doesn't change that. Now you can argue the committee won't care about that, which is probably true, but that just makes the committee morons.

West Virginia's three best wins are, by far, better than any wins we have. Gonzaga and Arizona on neutral courts, Kansas at Kansas.

Just out of curiosity, did you stop paying attention to the hoopies after our game?

Making NCAAT = going 9-4 in football

Elite 8 = ACC Championship in football

NIT = 8-5, I would say

Pitt basketball is ahead now. Not by a ton, but ahead. But Narduzzi has been the taller midget overall.

For Pitt/ACC, I'd say;

8-4 = low at-large/possibly First Four

9-3 = 6-9 seed

10-2 = 3-5 seed

11-1 = 2 seed

So in the last 8 years, Narduzzi has one trip to Dayton and that good Covid year with Kenny.

I'm not saying they're not good now. I'm saying they were not good when we beat them. I have only followed the scores since then. But my point, or idea, or whatever, is that had we played the team that has those 3 wins, it's not a blowout that I felt like a retard for not heavily betting on. In fact, we possibly or probably lose.

Also, I don't know what changed for them, but my assumption is something did, because the wvu team we beat looked like a team with no returning scoring, which I believe they are.

They beat Gonzaga and Arizona 12 and 14 days after playing us so I doubt the team went from a 2-16ish team, which is what they absolutely looked like to a Top 4 NCAAT seed in less than 2 weeks. They looked so bad. But you cant say Pitt beat a bad version of WVU when they beat Gonzaga 12 days later. Somehow, some way, WVU is really good. It defies all logic because their players are ass. Only Small, the coach's kid, and Hansberry would make our team and they won at Kansas without 2 of those players. It makes no sense.

In any event, it goes down as a great win for Pitt and is keeping us in the NCAAT.....for now.
