The jobs that would seem to be "best" to choose from are: Stanford, Pitt, Saint Louis, James Madison, Tulane, San Francisco, Western KY, and then a toss-up for the rest. Maybe I put our name too high on the list? Maybe it should be at the top, instead? Regardless, Pitt certainly "stands out" among all of these vacancies as no worse than a Top 3.

Ordinarily, I'd suggest that given the timing of Jamie's leaving and the NCAA Tournament being coincidental, it would make sense to wait until after the Final game to announce a coach. But that said, I highly doubt there are any of the coaches with teams still alive in the NCAA T that we would be after, or who would consider making a move.

OTOH, the NIT, CBI and CIT are still going, and perhaps we are looking to one of those coaches as a candidate? Obviously we can't contact them during the tournament, but among this list is there anyone you actually think Barnes might be waiting to call?

I would like to see him talk to Saul Phillips. Pitt fans would love him. He can coach & recruit.
I will look for Barnes at the game in Athens Ohio tonite when OU plays in the CBI semi.

W. Kentucky is actually a pretty sweet gig. Not P5 sweet, but for a mid-major, very nice and probably preferable to St. Louis or San Francisco. Whomever takes that gig just has to deal with the current situation, but after that's settled, there's a lot of backing and support. And a ton of history - one of the top 10 winning pcts in all of college hoops. But it not the same pool of candidates that would be considering Pitt.

That said, Drexel's recently departed coach has significant Calipari ties that would make this board's Squid fans happy. I'm looking forward to the reaction if Bruiser Flint gets an interview. It should be very funny.

Phillips has a pretty good resume and as example, his quick turn-around of the Bobcats program in his second year.

Another "Buckeye" coach to consider might be Jeff Boals, the assistant/associate head coach at OSU. The Thad Matta "coaching tree" has been pretty successful, and maybe Jeff could work out as a HC here. Not sure, but he wouldn't be the worst choice
