It was obvious in the first half that Pitt's shots weren't falling, and we quickly got down by a lot of points. So Dixon stepped in and went to his bench, and we went down by even more points. When we were down 25 points in the first half, Dixon's answer to a comeback was to put on the court Luther, Maia, Robinson, Wilson and Young. Now I ask you, besides Young, who is going to score with that group of players on the floor? I have no problem with going to the bench when stars like Artis are tired but to substitute while in a panic mode is ridiculous. Some of Dixon's line up combinations make absolutely no sense and hurt the team. It isn't a revelation that this team can't play defense, but keeping Artis out of the game for his lack of defense and bringing in someone that can't play defense blows my mind. We made a decent comeback in the second half because Dixon stayed out of the way and stayed with his horse for the most part. I am sorry, but guys like Wilson, Luther and Johnson may have a moment against weaker opponents, but against any decent competition they need not be on the court for any length of time. And for all the hype surrounding Wilson, I see less value in him going forward than Robinson. Any decent guard chews Robinson up, and it is very apparent that scoring isn't his strong suit. Sadly, to this point in Wilson's career, he seems to have no shot and his handle certainly isn't all that impressive. I simply can't see Luther in D-1 basketball, but Dixon keeps running him out there in situations when we need points. Why? Johnson has potential, but except for the BC game, how has he earned playing time? In my opinion, Dixon needs to shorten the bench in league play and quit over coaching especially when he panics.
