get us into to the top 25 at 7-3? history tells me no based on the fact we get no respect nationally.

we are a defensive team one sided. the polls dont penalize teams with great offense and porous defense. it seems the rankings are offensively biased.

personally i think we should be ranked at that record with the d we have

Probably no. There are plenty of unranked teams worthy of a top 25 ranking that have votes ahead of Pitt. There would have to be a considerable margin of victory over UNC in order for them to get enough votes. Even then I think we’d have to probably win against UNC and Va Tech to be considered top 25 worthy.

As for the Iowa team, they have a better strength of schedule due to the Big 10’s stature this year and their losses are all to decent ranked teams. They won’t be there long though as they have Minnesota and Illinois which 1 if not 2 losses for them. Of Pitt’s losses, only 1 team is ranked.

I’d much rather they be unranked until the end of the regular season. If they win the next 2 games, I would rather them play with a chip on their shoulder for the BC game to avoid a letdown.

No...

It will be incredibly hard for us to be ranked next week if we beat UNC. In one poll we have 2 votes and in the other poll we have NONE. To go from those positions all the way to being ranked in the Top 25, we'd need to win by something like 100-0. Beat both UNC and VT, no matter how close, then probably.

No. We haven't beat anyone of note aside from UCF. Beat UNC and VTech and we'll definitely be ranked.
We beat UCF and PSU. Oh geez I forgot that we forgot to score when we were on the PSU one yard line with four opportunities to score. We lost that one but it was a quality loss if that's possible.

I agree control what you can control and win out, all beatable teams, and we get ranked around 15.

No, it will not. Pitt will, more then likely, need to win out during the regular season to get into the Top 25.
It may seem unfair, but in college football, the WAY you win means so much more then in the NFL. The teams ranked in the Pre-Season Top 10 can win every game by 7 points or less, and it will have little to no effect on their ranking. Pitt on the other hand needs to go out and blow out inferior opponents and quite honestly they haven't done that in years. I hate psu and their head coach as much as any one, but I will give him credit for going out and putting up points on the board whenever possible. Their 79-7 win over Idaho looks a lot more impressive to poll voters then Pitt's 17-14 win over Delaware.
Pitt needs to develop that mind-set and until it does, it will always have to over achieve to be a Top 25 ranked team.
