Sucks?

I mean, beside pace what is unique about it?

If Holstein doesn't pull a rabbit out of a hat against Cinci and WVU was it even good?

Can't discard two wins against B12 teams due to luck. They were good offensive performances. However, jury still out on this offense. Definitely in a funk. The key selling point was play fast, but that's gone out the window since the Cal game.

The terrible o-line and injuries to Taylor and Holstein have really hurt. Think they deserve one more year to prove themselves. But the seat will be red hot. Narduzzi went all in on this. If it doesn't work, he shouldn't get another chance to fix it.

Pitt added a RS freshman QB transfer that hadn't played in college and one legit play maker in Dez Reid. They lost Bub Means.

Did you expect the offense to go from where it was last year to being good without a huge influx of talent?

It all seemed to fall apart once we got to 7-0 and the media started. Duzz on PMS. Duzz making jokes about WvU.

I know Duzz is probably as good as we can get but the team imploding after garnering some attention is Classic Duzz.

I would strongly suspect that the time Duzz has been spending in the Offensive meetings started to rise and then the decline began.

Over the course of the season I thought the offense was decent. Poor OL play, QBs missing wide open receivers, and receivers dropping a ton of balls made this offense look worse than it was.

Also, no OC will be able to fully implement an offense in one season, especially with. drastic change from Cignetti to Bell.

Taylor and who else? I keep reading two, but it's not like Jacoby hasn't been playing. I know Enos went down, but he was a backup.

How much has Jacoby played the last 4-5 weeks? Not sure he's started and finished a game, and when he's been in there he's been limping around.

Lost Cooper vs Clemson, and as you stated Enos. I think Williams is the only guy to start each game at his original position.

What's the offense do that's special?

Besides tempo, what's the innovation?

What offense is really innovative? Most are pulling pieces from offenses that have been around. There's really nothing new or innovative in Bell's offense.

The trick is how you scheme and stack play calls to use your strength and expose defensive weaknesses. I think we can safely say he's learning on the job at this level, and it's shown in how the tempo has slowed.

Our season was already on a downward path before Cooper went down, and Moore was supposed to start this season anyway.

But more than that, 85 scholarships is a ton. There are going to be some injuries, and depth is part of the game. It's not like we've had to play walk-ons a d-linemen on the o-line, like BC did a few seasons ago. Every team has injuries, and I just don't think that's why our season slid.

I'm not being a dick I'm asking.

I see a read option then two passes. Then we punt.

If sucked most of the Cinci game until Holstein took it into his own hands.

The more teams get film the more we look like shit.

As far as "innovation". Penn State has a good TE. So they throw him the ball even use the wildcat. I've seen zero adjustments or innovative ways to get our limited playmakers involved.

He also found no way to integrate Hammond who in the past was a playmaker.

Or make any adjustments in pass pro, move the pocket, little to no formation variation- almost zero true play action pass plays… he needs to do a serious self scout and add some variations.

I've never been a fan of hurry up/tempo aka "left lane hammer down" based offenses because you sacrifice everything you described for the sake of running extra plays.

If the entire premise is based on 5 OL staying healthy - you don’t have a good system.
Especially running a 150 pound back up the middle so often
what system is a good with average starters on the OL only to backed up by below average starters?

You can only rob Peter to pay Paul so much.

What do you suggest Bell should do to see marked improvement on offense?

Turns out those teams stink too

Qb under center /
Play actions
Reid and Carter in the backfield together
Chip edge rushers instead of having the tackles get beat constantly .
Use the TEs down the seams like everyone else does.
Ditch the hurry up concept .
I agree some of these could be helpful. You need to understand when you hire an OC who lives is in the world, he's married to shotgun/tempo. Under center football is non-existent. The Air Raid guys never go under center unless there is some kind of rare circumstance. James Franklin only goes under center in short yardage. Mike Leach cut his teeth as a 10 personnel and didn't use TE's. These guys are married to this stuff. It's why I've always preferred a pro-style system with multiple layers to the offense.

PITT is so bad right now on offense, I'm not sure what to do. The OL is in shambles. If you go max protect w/out a running game, you're asking for trouble. You have no defenders in conflict at the 2nd/3rd level and they'll just bracket receivers.

They were vastly improved offensive performances compared to the previous season.

But F+ currently has WVU’s defense 86. Cinn at 63.

28 points against the 63 ranked defense is objectively an average performance.
Dead cat bounce .

you can’t be exclusively shotgun exclusively. Variety is always a better option
If you can’t adapt your philosophy based on the personnel and outcomes during the games - stick to coaching with your dad in the Atlantic sun .

Using a TE and or RB to chip and then go to the flat or short curl would be a helluva better than what we’ve watched half this season.
Throwing a 3 yard pass to our second te down 10 with a hospital ball is the perfect encapsulation of this season .

Here's a question to ask yourself.

If Cignetti had Holstein and Bell had Jurk would it have been any better?

Nearly 100 more yards per game and over 12 PPG better than last year.
Almost any coach could have improved on that manure they put out there last year. Not really a compelling case basing it on last year's offense.

That's been my concern from day one. He's a bit like Whipple, imo, with some cute plays, but a pass happy offense that has a poor run scheme.

Basically it was get the ball to Reid and let him ghost or Eli ad libbing or running down field.

Some one posted pay side that teams started playing one deep and Bell had no counter.

Now, I think he has some talent, but he needs to humble himself a bit and reexamine his offense and adjust for this level.
