Does Joe Paterno being AD in 80's take this to a death penalty possibility?

When this story broke 4 years ago, a Lawyer friend said that if any of this happened when he was Athletic Director it would fast-track the case to Death Penalty status. It would essentially be " lack of institutional control" and leapfrog SMU. I believe it's far worse than SMU.

So now these cases happened before, during and after Joe was AD, he could have fired ( not promote and give tenure ) to this monster.

Can the NCAA take another look at this and does this become a legitimate hole in our future schedules that needs filled?

Great post and would be interested to hear the answer. My initial thought is that the NCAA would be gun shy to re-punish Penn State, and institutional control or lack there of is what they should have punished them for in the first place

The only thing in my mind is if they " lied to Congress" or in this case the NCAA. That is simply giving the NCAA another free bite of the Apple. It's a Felony to the NCAA.

I don't know the answer but I do know this is very bad for Joe's legacy for the lunatic fringe who promote it.

I hope the public demand the NCAA revisit this injustice and conduct their own thorough investigation!
Does any one have the contact information for the NCAA?

Is the NCAA still in a legal battle with the Paterno's? I simply lost interest in it after awhile. I wonder how today impacts the battle if it's still ongoing.

Yep, Paterno vs. NCAA is still on-going.

I don't think the NCAA has any interest in re-visiting Penn State, the University.

But the Paterno vs. NCAA lawsuit is definitely at "this is personal, we will fight to the death" levels on both sides. The NCAA definitely likes today's news.

I almost wish we had resolution to this 5 years ago. If Franklin was upset about not moving on last week, I'm sure he's thrilled today.

The Penn State cult could see video of Sandusky molesting these victims with the whole coaching staff watching and they still wouldn't believe it. They'd still defend the cult and call the victims liars. What a twisted place. They should have gave them the death penalty, instead they let them off the hook early. They've been worse than ever with their condescending chest thumping since all of this. They've learned nothing. #Unrivaled....#WeAreBetter....What a joke! And everyone in the world see's it but them

You know... it is ridiculous these people.

First it is Sandusky vs NCAA not Penn State... now it is Paterno vs. NCAA ...

Like I said.. ANY scandal to be put into these terms. Maurice Clarrett stealing a stereo then shouldnt have had any punishment to OSU, or Boheim calling a recruit, or Reggie Bush taking money... it was all someone doing something bad. But, Paterno WAS THE FOOTBALL COACH as was sandusky. Were the current pr past football players child rapist... well, I dont know, but certainly this doesnt imply that at all. But that does not matter. The football program needs to be more severely punished.

It will be interesting. The NCAA has to do SOMETHING if they find that they were blatantly lied to all along. That being said, its going to be awfully tough to prove anything unless they can get testimony from one of the surviving assistant coaches.

Which is possible if one of them don't want this following them around to their grave

The NCAA already excused everything they did by restoring wins, scholarships, and penalties. The cat is out of the bag, it's not going to be revisited.

They should, but they won't. They will slap another penalty on SMU for good measure.

I didn't see this thread and I made a similar thead a while ago but I think him being AD while this was going on makes it look worse and worse for Paterno and Penn State. At that time Paterno was IN CHARGE AND CONTROL of all Penn State athletics.

IMHO this is a lack of institutional control and deserves the death penalty which they should have received before. I personally believe this will get much worse for Penn State and now we are finding out why they were so willing to take the punishment the NCAA handed down originally.

This was all covered up to protect the brand and keep the $$$$$ machine rolling and running at any and all costs, even the safety and welfare of children.

To give this monster a safe haven to carry out those atrocities against innocent little boys all in order to make money and pass it off as the charitable 2nd Mile foundation. Everyone also knows the money was going directly to the football program. Everyone who was anyone at that Dispicable place knew what was going on, and yet not one of them, not even one, had the human decency to put a stop to it, all because Ped St. football was king, and no one or nothing comes before Ped St. football.

There has never been a case that demonstrates lack of institutional control more than this one. What SMU did with the paying of players by boosters does not even come close to rivaling what went on at Ped. St. What SMU did violated NCAA standards. What Pedo U. did was violate criminal law, NCAA laws, and got away with it for some 30 years, all while the atrocities mounted.

It is really sad that nothing more will be done. This Universities cult followers and really anyone affiliated with that program since the early 70's should be disgraced. This program should have been shut down for the worst violations in NCAA history, and it was given a slap on the wrist. It is time for someone to come clean and tell the truth, everyone knows it already but we would like to hear it from someone who matters. Maybe soon, the missing DA Ray Gricar will come back and tell his story, but I am not holding my breath waiting for him.

Are they still on their knees in front of the JoePa statue? They are in some strange universe I'm glad I do not understand.

Is Mrs Paterno getting apologies from the cult still? Joe didn't do the raping but he allowed it to continue for many years, and I don't know which is worse!

I think giving the retirement package to Sandusky is absolutely insane. He got basically a hero's package.

That alone should make any Joe lover realize what an inhumane cow turd he is

This will result in :

Nothing

The NCAA are turds and will be too busy going to parties and other boondoggles to feed their fancy. Why break up the fun with this ugly business.
They gave back the wins and cut the sanctions short and will not go looking to find anything else. Not now not ever again related to the State College scandal.

The Joebots will talk about unsubstantiated charges.
The BOT caving , Old Main caving

Somebody tell me how this is going to move the needle one iota.

Tired of people assuming because he won a ton of games and helped college kids grow into men...he's some kind of saint or savior...This "man" helped enable a predator. He looked the other way for the sake of his own image. It's a shame karma took him from us...he should be shacked up with Sandusky right now, talking about the good ole' days.
