Pitt no wins on the road. 3 non competitive out of 5

What people don't understand is the context. Both offensively and defensively, this Pitt team is worse than either of Stallings' teams. It's partly the lack of talent, but it's also the poor coaching. I know conventional wisdom says that Stallings was worse than Capel, but by what measure? He certainly knew the game better than Capel does. We're playing in a weaker ACC than Stallings had. Losing to Clemson by close to 30? Really? Now we have this....20 turnovers on 62 possessions. That is rock bottom.

But we're stuck with him for now, unfortunately. Lyke has some decisions to make or she'll lose even more of her fanbase if this guy is given the opportunity to stick around another year.

Just when you think “hey let’s check out the free board”. Threads and replies like this illustrate why it just isn’t safe.

thank god @WillFerrell dropped some coaching nuggets or this fishing trip would have been a bust!

Huh?

Oh, No. (but I still would never fire him)

I think Dick Groat was certainly past his prime. But Pitt did not handle his departure in a decent, ethical way at all. He should not have been fired. That firing is one of the reasons I have my doubts about Pitt athletics overall and this athletic department. I was very disappointed in them when this happened.

You have no idea what went on behind the scenes with Groat. It's very possible they asked him to retire gracefully but he wouldn't and they had to fire him then because he got so incredibly bad.

That very well might be what happened. If so, then I have even less respect for the Pitt athletic department.

You have no idea what happened behind the scenes and I don't either. In any case, it was mishandled and showed a lack of respect for a true Pittsburgh icon and legend.

Technically I don't think that they fired him, because his contract expired. I think that they just didn't offer him another contract after the one ran out.

Which was obviously the correct decision, because by the end he was so bad that he was unlistenable.

I have never understood the attitude that “ X ( insert name) has earned the right to be able to stay until he wants to leave.” It is a job, and when someone is no longer able to perform up to expectations, they should be asked to leave. At the very least, their families and friends should be telling them that it is time to go, before it becomes obvious that they cannot do the job and are embarrassing themselves. I put Bill Hillgrove in this category.

You’ve stated you don’t watch
This post proves it

Not to be repetitive but Femi is not a point guard. He dribbles too much and tries to force too much. He accounts for a lot of those turnovers.
And a further concern is that even if Sibande comes back, he’s a combo G (like Burton) and not a true PG, either. Eze - while he plays his hardest and gives all he’s got- is not a P6 player. So there really doesn’t seem to be an acceptable solution to the PG situation in place for next season as of now. 😏

Bull crap. It was handled exactly how you handle someone who refuses to understand when their time is up. Legend or not, he had to go.

And you of course know what went on behind the scenes and that Groat refused to understand that his time was up. I'm terribly sorry for mistaking you for just another poor slob on a message board. 😂

I understand why and old timer getting pushed out to pasture is triggering to you :)
