Does Pitt have the most incompetent Administration in the NCAA?

Honestly, with the stupid decisions ( almost too numerous to list ) and the self inflicted wounds it makes you wonder if Pitt's decision makers are graduates of Penn State.
You have to wonder sometimes...don't you? If Pitt was a corporation, it would have been bankrupt many times over due to the poor decisions that were made and being mismanaged.

Only in Athletics otherwise pretty impressive. Considering their primary business is EDUCATION.
This is a sports board...the issue isn't academics but the incompetent management of athletics where Pitt has embarrassed themselves for more than 40 years

If only we had administrators who enabled pedophilia or institutional rape and murder we would be right up there with the best of them.

They have made some of the most ridiculous decisions ever seen in college athletics. It's actually impressive we've for the most part had very competitive athletic programs for most of the last 15-20 years now. As bad as the program crippling decisions have been, we've never actually fell into the dreads of college athletics like we were in in the 90s. So yeah the athletic department has been pretty incompetent, but in all actuality we've been a fairly solid athletic school throughout the whole time.

Yeah, amazing how schools like...I dunno, Stanford, Michigan, UNC, Notre Dame, Texas, USC, UCLA, Ohio State, etc..., you know, schools with really great academics can manage to take athletics seriously and do well with them while maintaining great academics. Seems like some of the old guard at Pitt somehow convinced many of us that they are mutually exclusive.

Actually Pitt has a number of nationally ranked programs grad and undergrad.
Yeah, I'm aware and almost all of them are on the medical side. However, the business school is not performing well and the law school is getting absolutely killed. They need much better leadership.

If they where like Penn State they'd win at sports sometimes, This year they are B1G football and hockey champs.

Or not, I haven't heard of tOSU, 'Bama, UK, or lots of others who are good at sports and haven't done any of that. It's not mutually exclusive.

THIS^^^

PS fans donate to their school because they want to help them win. PS Wrestling and Hockey come to mind. Pitt fans are losers who only complain.

But would being good at athletics hurt the education?
Actually the more likely result is that sports excellence would lift all the other boats at Pitt. Positive brand association, political capital, overall donations. Bad sports has opposite impact, at least in Pittsburgh. Poor sports helps allow the awful civic leadership to dump on the university.

The current and past administrations might realize this (or not),but either way have not been successful in leveraging athletics properly. They seem to see mostly the supposed negative side (which undoubtedly there are some).

they also have fans who actually go to games and fill seats not sit back and whine on message boards and go to kid soccer games instead.
They also have had an admin. Committed to winning as opposed to the eggheads running Pitt who have gone out of their way to sabotage athletics. Pitt fans have a reason to whine: incompetent administrators who have had a Luke warm commitment to athletics and have at times intentionally undermined athletics. Pitt looks at its contributors as a revenue stream to whom they have no accountability for their poor decisions.

Wow instead of the original question we should ask if the Pitt fan base has the biggest lynch- mob, irrational reaction to any hire that Pitt makes.
Our new ad hasn't even started a full day and the pitch forks are out from many of our fan base. Then the question is what name or person would calm the fan base. It seems like whomever it is there is always gonna be a bunch of fans who always feel Pitt could have done better.

What else do those schools have? Oh yeah.... consistent fanbases who while they do complain they still haven't made excuses for their lack of support and complaining THE way of life.....

"Short term thinking has long dominated and always damaged Pitt athletics. Over 70 years of non-sense from shooting themselves in the foot".

Our new AD worked in Ohio States athletic department for 15 very successful years. She then was able turn around a pretty bad athletic department fairly quickly at a MAC level school. She seems very knowledgeable, motivated and personable. Hiring a person like this demonstrates a commitment to being a major athletics program. I don't understand where the criticism is...she's more accomplished than Barnes was and no one was upset about his hiring. Makes me wonder honestly

Given her legal background, her focus for much of the past has been compliance, a very narrow part of the job.

That's bad news since she'll be able to help present a really good wrongful termination case two or three years down the road. Right around the time KS goes!

Exactly. Listen to her press conference. She doesn't mumble like Barnes... she presents herself well... and that lends itself well to what is sorely needed. Fund Raising!!!
