Earliest years I started being allowed to watch the Tonight Show with my folks in the late 70s (they probably weren't being the best parents...I was like 8 or 10), I remember Rickles coming on as a guest and ripping on, well, everyone (but especially Ed). Calling people "hockey pucks" doesn't translate the best today but a 10 year old i thought it was pretty hilarious! Normally the show was kind of boring, tedious old guests like Jimmy Stewart or Bette Davis (but you'd watch anything to stay awake later, right?). Rickles wasn't as intriguing as the Columbus zoo guy (or Charo!), but definitely made it more lively.
