There's been a lot of work done for pedestrians to make things safer like improved intersections. I wish would could get rid of the counter-flow bus lane on 5th. That almost got me my first year here.

yeah, and it is not even as is you have any wiggle room, no shoulder whatsoever so one step off the curb and that bus is on you.

You've brought back some memories for me: I was living in Oakland at the time when Forbes and Fifth became one-way streets. The first day, before cars had adjusted to the change, was like auto-roulette: we witnessed so many near-head-on collisions that it looked surreal.

Despite many notifications and warnings on the media about the traffic changes, and signs erected all over Oakland, some drivers were still unaware of the new traffic pattern, so they were insisting that they could drive in the direction that they always had. They weren't even trying to "right-the-wrong", because they didn't know that they were wrong.
