May be common knowledge already but I thought this was interesting:

Pitt's recruitment of Mathews reached its zenith when a spot opened after Narduzzi soured on former Maryland wide receiver Juwann Winfree, who committed to Pitt in December.

We traded lack of character for character,” Narduzzi said, never mentioning Winfree by name.

I love the Dooz and his candor is refreshing, but I will say I think he needs to watch some of the stuff he says. This is an example. It's a pretty serious accusation to say to the media that a 19-20 year old kid lacks character, even if it's true. Dooz would say some pretty controversial stuff at MSU at times too, but he wasn't the face of the program there. I can recall he had to issue an explanation for his comments a couple of times, I'm sure that was Dantonio saying to him after the fact "dude WTF were you thinking????"

I have had the same feeling with some of Coach Duzz's statements. Sometimes his passion for what he is doing and his competitiveness makes him say things that would be better left unsaid or at least toned down.

Seems to me that Franklin has toned down his rhetoric, which is understandable given the results he has gotten, but Coach Duzz needs to watch so he doesn't say things that would result in him losing the edge that he has gained.

I'd make it a rule to never speak negatively about any kid who you have recruited -- who know, somewhere down the line you might want that kid to transfer to Pitt -- and you avoid sending an unintended message to other kids or to the kid's high school...

Go Pitt.

Yeah, for once I agree slightly with TD. Not to that extent, but if the coach feels this way and there is reason behind it, which we all dont know about, so be it. If Noll, Lombardi, Ditka, or a gazillion other coaches said this back in the day, it wasnt even a blip.

That being said, saying it about a teenager (if he is a teenager) is certainly toeing the line. Needs to watch that. Duzz is certainly passionate and will give the reporters lots of juicy quotes in the coming years. Already rips on coaches, tells media when a player does something wrong, and mouths off (nice!) to the nefarious bunch to the east of Pitt.

Coach is authentic - nothing wrong with that. He didn't call out anybody by name, nor mention anything specific or held in trust. We connected the dots to Winfree, who's already been thrown out of one school and impugned his own reputation; but that's still just speculation - maybe he was referring to the other recruit that lifted someone's cell phone.

Seems to me that Duzz was well within bounds with two feet.
