what will happen to the Dinocat now that we're rebranding back to script? Honestly, I'd like to see a return to this cat!

They can't because the Steelers own the copyright to that logo and every other logo designed in Western PA prior to 1996.

Did the Steelers not own the rights to the script? If so, is it because we use the new colors that we are allowed to use it?
Yes, it's dumb but I believe when we switched to the "Pittsburgh Panthers", it was the university that sold all these things to the Steelers.

The Cat and the Script can exist together, but the DinoCat has to be buried due to the mediocrity of results of its creator that spent much Pitt Money for his Consultant's Pockets and that required a Buyout to make Pitt better and worth every penny for him to leave?

Chancellor Gallagher has a good group of Pitt Alunmi advising him.

Athletic Director Barnes has an Alumni & Fan Circle of Committee reviewing and proposing ways for Pitt to regain both attendance and financial support, over the Ego Manic's Consultants that used Pitt Money to change the Pitt Brand and every few years!

Coach Pat & Staff will take care of rebuilding the Pitt Program by wanting to be at Pitt, being one with his Players, and hopefully turns into big winning unlike the mediocrity of Pitt Past since 1997?

There is room for a New Cat Attack especially with New Uniforms coming next year, but with the Pitt Script not without it!

The Pitt Script return was a quiet but significant repudiation of Steve Pederson's actions that failed to build Pitt into a Top 25 Program Program and after Smiley could not maintain Nebraska a Top 25 Program after 5 and 19 Years!

The Pitt Script just like burying "Pittsburgh" for back to "Pitt" portends better things to come to Pitt Football!

Anything that changes will have input from Pitt Alumni and Fans unlike Pederson's & his Greedy Consultants!

For the record, that logo is fine. I also like this one:

Still, I think they should do the common sense thing for once and simply model something after the Panther statue outside of Heinz Field or near campus.

I suspect that is what they did with the 125th anniversary logo...

Also, the Carolina Panthers' statues are incredibly imposing. We could steal from them too.

Imagine this primarily in midnight blue but with gold highlights and good eyes! I think it would be awesome!

One thing is for sure. Anything would be better than this...

Excellent Post and that Pitt Panther Eyes should be Yellow but I'll accept Green! They could put that Circle Logo as a Decal passed out for Great Plays to be placed on the Helmet.
OR
Create one with those "Panther Eyes", that refelcet on players being rewarded by focusing on the other Teams as Prey by producing Big Plays! Especially if the Stickers on the Helmet can be made that can be seen with bright reflections from the field?

Another change portending better things to come from better people in managing Pitt Football Program!

Also, I think the Dorsett era helmets at least are where we should go. Helmet wise, that is the best shade of old gold that we've seen.

If so, that's a joke...

Despite a lot of misinformation and some silly urban legends, the same legal entity that owns script Pitt also owns Dinocat and all the other University of Pittsburgh trademarks. Not sure how or why anyone believed differently...other than I suppose it was something silly used to prop up a lot of stupid arguments and positions. Hail to Pitt!

When the script returns in April, all the other marks won't be used again. Then in the following year we'll roll out a secondary logo which I'm assuming will be a panther of some kind. You won't see the AD use the Block or the Dinocat again for anything so get ready for some stuff to be on sale at the Sheetz in Breezewood!!!!

Better get there quick! James from State College won't be happy about Pitt gear in Breezewood. He might buy it all just to throw it away. As he slams a Pitt hat into the trash he yells, "That's how you dominate the state!"

I'd like to see them bring back the Pink Panther version of the Panther that they used in the late 70's and early 80's. He was on the mural on the side of Pennsylvania Hall that could be seen from inside Pitt Stadium in those days. They also used him on the envelope that acceptance letters came in with Good News! on the pennant he was holding. Wished I'd have saved mine.

They have a great photo of that version of the Pitt Panther on the walls of Atria's in Mt. Lebanon. I took a photo of it a few years ago but I have no idea what I did with it?

If that happens, good chance Penn State BWI Poster PnnyLion will find some in the Dumpsters he searches every day and brags about what he finds?:(:oops:o_O;)

Well, the Pink Panther tune was created by West Aliquippa's Henry Mancini that also wrote Moon River remembering his memories of overlooking the Ohio River from his Home!

The Management of Atria's is run by Johnny Angel and I met him at a Sewickley Sweet Water Charity Auction Cook Off for Cancer Victims. He told me they operate Ditka's too in Robinson Township and the Menus are the same except for few names!

all of those panther statues except the one outside heinz look like they need tested for big cat steroids. the one on campus looks way better than carolina's though. wow are those some overly muscled panthers there.

yeah the old panther heads were all pretty good

id love to see a logo with the style they used for the program cover for 1960 pitt vs psu i think it was. the panther and the nittany lion rolling up their sweatshirt sleeves, forehead to forehead about to go at it. can't find a picture of it online of course

I think there is mixed confusion as you correctly point out. The Steelers do not own the Steeler logo, they called up USS Steel and asked to lease it for about $100 Dollars a Year after USS Steel gave permission.

When The Steelers were having some Inheritance Ownership Restructuring Problems there was talk they did create a New Logo so they could own it and make it more valuable, in case they ever sold the Club

It looks like a panther transforming into a were-seal...
Or a Cat with Rabies or very pissed off about something??? all i know if I ever saw one looking at me that way, it is time to out run your friend next to you!

It looks like some of the Defense Players at MSU & PITT right now that developed a New Attitude under Coach Don Nuzzi!!!

It is a tad scary like this one below:

as long as it looks close to a real panther I'll be happy.

take for example Sex Panther, its made from bits of real panther so you know it's good!
