Durand Johnson leaves program

Interesting he waited this long to do it. Can't help but wonder if it was his decision. Unless maybe he's just gonna roll the dice and try to play overseas but I can't imagine anyone beating his door down for that either. Real curious what the real story is here.

Wow! This little development really intensifies our need for a shooter! We need so much help on the perimeter, even if we had Calipari as our coach, I don't know if he could be able to restock our perimeter with enough good players.

It actually makes perfect sense. He needed to graduate (assuming he did) in order to transfer and not be penalized. He already redshirted, so he wouldn't be able to sit out a year and redshirt.

Why don't you post some of these reports, I Googled Durand Johnson NEWS and found nothing new.

So are they going to tell us why? Or is it a secret like the original suspension.

Even board members on the athletic commitees weren't told why he was suspended, at least that is something I have heard.

Oh the power of hindsight, as at the time that was considered an excellent class...top 20 in the country on rivals and top 15 on scout.

Mad,! How do we suspend a player for a year without saying why. Let him travel to Hawaii with the team. Now let him just walk away. I thought he knew we were depending on him. So Coach, come clean. Why was he suspended?

Because it's none of your business, that's why.

These aren't professionals, they're college kids. A student's privacy is important.

Disappointing, but I don't think this leaves a huge hole in the roster. I never thought that he could realistically play SG. He may have started at SF if Artis can't play there, but at least there are a lot of guys that can fill that position. We need an SG that can shoot, but they also need to be able to handle the ball and defend on the perimeter.

don't know all the facts yet but if its another school he is transferring that is pretty poor on Durand's part especially after how Dixon kept him part of the team. Again, don't know all the facts and this is an early assumption.

He can only play in D1 maybe even D2 only if he had graduated and can transfer as a senior grad student. Frankly, I wonder if something else happened and made it a foregone conclusion. Disappointing either way.

Steinbrink reporting that Pitt made the decision-that Johnson didn't "fulfill his responsibilities". In other words, his act got old.

Dixon better have an epic rabbit in his hat

Sorry dude...I just assumed that you getting free tickets from players and high level donors all of the time would have been able to get this information prior to anyone in the news reporting it. I will keep that in mind for you in the future...

I was hoping he would have put this time off to good use in increasing his ball handling & passing skills and come back a much better player. Looks like he was passing something else. Too bad. This also shows you that Pitt is not a win at all cost program.

Not too optimistic about us landing anyone of quality this late in the game. This has been the story of the past couple of classes. Grab whoever's left after the music stops and try to pretend we got just who we wanted. Maybe we could take on yet another transfer who plays the 3-4.

Nothing good about this development.

"This also shows you that Pitt is not a win at all cost program."

So does our recent performance.

For some reason my earlier post got deleted but I said the same thing. No way he waits this long then decides to leave. Doesn't make any sense.

Isn't this exam week? Are they over? Could Jamie have waited until he graduated to let the news out?

I've never seen so much hand-wringing over a kid who averaged about 5 points per game in his career, and shot 35% on 3's. He had potential, but never consistently produced anything to make anyone think he alone could spark the program back to high levels. Would be better to have him than not, but as Coach Dixon told Paul Ziese, it was time to move on.

I don't know any "high level donors" I know people inside the university. I might know a couple mid-level donors, but my connections are not in any way because of money.

Then why bother playing in the Big Leagues? Why go Power 5? Just to be mediocre and collect a big check to spend on other things? I guess that's what Pitt is all about, stay on the fringes of the big time, to collect TV money, but never really go all out to win. Who are we kidding, that has been clear for years! They are almost embarrassed to really compete with those at the highest livel, going toe to toe and fighting fire with fire, just play nice and ca$h the check$.

Keep calm, and carry on.

The guy was an erratic shooter who couldn't handle the ball, who played no defense, and didn't rebound much. Seemed physically dubious after the injury, too. We are lousy (literally) with those kind of guys already. In fact, he's basically Jeter, except Jeter has more potential upside.

The mystery (besides why Pitt didn't jettison him last fall if he was SUCH a troublemaker, and open a scholie sooner) is why so many fans were counting on him making any kind of major difference next year.

Good luck to him, it sounds like he'll need it.

That is awfully funny! "time to move on." Time to move onto what? Durand was a career 36 percent shooter from 3 point land. Not a great number, but, who do we have currently other than Chris Jones, who can shoot a decent percentage? Let me guess, we are going to get some great shooter at this late portion of the recruiting year. I don't know how anyone can come on here and say that this is not going to have a negative affect on the program. No worries, we can count on Josh and of course our great assist to turnover man Jrob to make our outside shots next season. I will be waiting for Jamie to pick up some more leftovers that almost nobody wants to complete our backcourt for next season. This is getting just a little bit old, don't you think?
