For the right price, they will. Pitt's going to have to match or beat big P2 offers.

Actually, on Bell, he doesn't strike me as a carpetbagger. I bet he'd stay if we can just come close to P2 money. That dude just seems different. Heck, he has to realize if he stays and we put together 4-5 good seasons, he's probably the next HC here.

they were willing to match them with JA. They'll match them with Eli.

Next year is more than likely his last. Pitt will do whatever they can to return the entire offense

The numbers have gone way up. Im not exactly sure how much Eli will get but the top QBs are getting $5 million.

Next year is who's last?

Do we have a reason to believe he won't get an offer that competes with that? I don't think there's any chance Pitt will lose out on Eli because they're too cheap. There are serious donors that love this program. They'll pony up the money to keep him.

there's no reason to believe he'll play more than another year in CFB

If you arent a guaranteed 1st Rounder then you need to stay. The best college QB's make more than 2nd Round picks. And what if you are 3rd, 4th, or later?

I think Maye, Penix, JJ and Nix are all huge question marks in the NFL and they all went in the top 12.

This is not going to be a bidding war. Quarterbacks want to find the right fit and play in the NFL. McCord is playing for way less in Syracuse than he could have gotten elsewhere. As long as Bell is back, so too will Eli be back.

Haven't you heard, we have it from good sources that QBs are making $5m a year in NIL and are better off staying in college.

Yeah, I don't know what the actual deals are but they're not that high. Nico Iwhatever from Tennessee got an assload, but it certainly wasn't $5M/year. And he certainly isn't very good.

And I think estimates on what Cam Ward got were like $1M - $1.5M. I mean, that's a ton, but it's not $5M. And I can't imagine any transfer got him more than him this past offseason.

some of these SEC schools have bigger stadiums than NFL teams. They have endless money down there. I wouldn't be shocked if teams are paying that. I guarantee an SEC or BIG10 school will throw insane money at Arch Manning.

He should win a starting position on his own team before he worries about that.

If there is ever a $5M bidding war for a QB, I think he'll have to be like what Michael Vick was in college or something. And it would have to be a desperate team that hasn't won anything in a long time, combined with a fan base with deep collective pockets. So, as per usual, Texas A&M.

lol the guy he's behind was the top QB prospect coming into the year but got hurt ... Addison offers were reported at 1.5M .. for a receiver back in 2022.

College football is a billion dollar industry. It's only growing. 5M will be nothing in short time.

who do you think will generate more revenue this year? Texas with Quinn Ewers as their QB or the Carolina Panthers with Andy Dalton? Dalton is making 4M this year.

Yeah, a QB who's a borderline 1st round pick shouldn't be going into his pre-draft season at a new program with a new OC and new system, way too much risk. Also, the big P2 schools will hedge their bets and bring in multiple transfer QB's, so there's the risk of not getting the starting job and having to transfer again after spring practice.

the world is coming to an end..........we agree on something............ha ha.

To elaborate, I dont know this for a fact but Eli is a big picture guy. Im sure money is a factor to some extent but assuming Bell stays and Duzz and company add pieces to the offense to further improve it (which is likely), there is huge downside risk associated with moving to another program and not being able to match the production hes enjoying now. Its all about piling up stats to build his draft position. I also think loyalty may play a factor as well as PItt gave him a chance to start and get the exposure hes getting now.

Never say never but there's some very compelling reasons to stay at Pitt beyond the short term Nil money.

The Carolina Panthers, because I can Google it and see.

The Carolina Panthers' revenue for the 2023 season was $574 million. In 2023, the Panthers ranked 22nd in revenue among NFL teams, up one spot from the previous year.

In 2023, the University of Texas football program generated $183 million in operating revenue and a $39 million surplus over expenses. This was part of the school's total operating revenue of $271 million, which was an NCAA record. The 2023 fiscal year ended on June 30, 2023.

It's a business. A coach leaving for perceived better opportunities doesn't make him a carpet bagger.

Yeah, I was hoping that somehow he was trying to confuse people with that one, because the answer is so obviously the Carolina Panthers that I can't imagine how anyone could think otherwise. NFL teams get more money from their national deals, before they sell one ticket or one local sponsorship or anything like that, than any college team has ever gotten. And even that is not close at all.

Yeah - these SEC and BIG TV deals, while historic, are each only about 1/10 of what the NFL brings in. Or if we combined them, to get about the same number of teams as the NFL has, it would be like 1/5... which is still a monumental difference.

You're living in a SMF created fantasy land. There's no college NIL vs NFL competion for any good players, and there never will be.

The only guys that will stay in college are those that the NFL isn't interested in. None of those guys are going to command top NIL deals either.

Or the guys that’s aren’t eligible to get drafted.. those are the guys that’ll get paid .. Eli with another year guaranteed means other schools are going to offer dumb money.

This is a grumpy old man take

I also think Eli is smart enough to realize a second year in the same system with the same OC and the same skill players that currently has him getting Heisman buzz will be better for his draft stock than a short term pay day and starting over in a new system. But who knows. I prefer to focus on enjoying this year and worrying about next year next year.

lol dude I’m enjoying this year plenty. You don’t gotta pipe in and mention that every single time lol .. we’re allowed to talk about the future of the program.

I mean… it’s a relevant comment to make in this thread.

Don’t be so defensive.
