That is great stuff. The Duzz laying down smack on EJ & the ink-stained wretches.
While I think it's Duzzi being Duzzi, and done from sincerity and a good sense of humor, it's also good business on his part to personalize the relationships with the local press. Just add some winning, fill those empty seats and we will have one hell of a popular coach with media, recruits and fans. That is great stuff. Duzzi really has been a breath of fresh air, the level of energy and enthusiasm is really good to see. You get the feeling he really, really wanted this job, he's been waiting for it all his life, and he really, really wants to kick ass here.
Yes I think this is lost on many. It's supposed to be entertainment. Of course, winning would be the supreme entertainment, but it's very low on Pitt's list of priorities. Therefore, fans (or alums who want a reason to be fans, maybe more accurately) focus on the peripheral things ... recruiting rankings, twitter tweets, logos, stadium amenities, pictures on the ticket packages, the knot on Pederson's tie ... and yeah, coaching personalities. They're all weak substitutes for winning ... nobody cares a bit that Saban, Meyer and Coach K are 3 of the most boring individuals in earth, or that Bama's unis ate dull, or that UNC's colors are abysmal (when they win, that is).I was laughing out loud at this. For me, Pitt football is like a TV series I watch. Yea, the results are what matters most but I like to be entertained by interviews and press conferences. That's all part of Pitt football for me. Having to watch Chryst bumble his way through interviews and pressers without ever saying anything was beyond painful. Oh, that was bad. Now, if he won games, we could deal with that but he didnt.
Wanny entertained me and so did Todd Graham. If you're not going to entertain, you better win and Chryst didn't. Hopefully Narduzzi can do both.

Some scoff at this, including the scolds who bray the nonsense that winning compromises the "mission of the university" and such dreck. I guess frivolity of logos and coaches' pressers probably offend them then, too. But like it or not, the University signed up willingly to be in this entertainment business. If they aren't gonna provide the steak on the field and court (and they definitely haven't), they sure as hell better give a little sizzle off of it.
Win! But win honorably.
Duke? Gonzaga? Lots of teamswho is consistently winning honorably?
