I don’t think the early signing period bodes well for Pitt. Narduzzi has been able to get kids to flip in January. Or really get into the living rooms of highly rated kids come January. Not sure that happens anymore. There will be kids available until February but for the most part more of the highly rated kids will start to sign in December as time goes on.

Another factor will be if there is a coaching change. Generally that happens in early December. Not enough time to recruit but time to lose classes.

At the same time he gets to see what kids are not solid and he can see who he really has a shot at in the late period.

Pat said it in his post signing day pressed they don't like to recruit hard like others in the regular season. He is focused on X's and O's and gsme planning not recruiting so the early signing day reduces window of recruiting. However in typical season Pitt is bowling at this point to still only a month of hard core recruiting

I think it's too early to tell what the net effect of the early period will be. I think it will take a couple of cycles. It's apparent that the stakes were a bit higher. I was shocked at guys like Parsons committing. Not that he went to PSU but that he didn't string it along a little further. I still contest that a guy of his caliper should never sign a LOI and just wait to enroll. There's zero upside for the kid and no coach would shut him out.

I think the "lesser" bowl games will suffer the most and it might be why we're seeing some big blowouts. I think the staffs will let the kids enjoy the week and the game but they're pushing to get their class signed because it matters a lot more..

Once these guys are signed, you don't have to constantly monitor their intentions and waste resources fighting off teams trying to flip your commit. It narrows the field of available players and help focus in recruiting for your available spots.

There are always going to be plusses and minuses.

But I like the early signing period for the most part. Keeps the late poachers away from guys that verbal early and then sign in Dec. The late flips from Pitt by QB recruits like Hornibrook and Freeback put Pitt in a HUGE dilemma at QB and left voids that ended up getting filled out of necessity by guys like Bertke and DiNucci. Threw the QB roster out of whack and Pitt is still trying to get things back on track at that critical position.

Right now, Patti, such a critical QB recruit, is SIGNED to a binding LOI. Same applies to all of the other recruits who have already signed with Pitt. Could see some SEC or ACC heavyweights trying to swoop in late for guys like the CB Williams; or Shocky; or O'Neil; or others. They'd try to do that right at the very last minute right before the Feb NLI date if they weren't already signed to binding LOI's. So now Pitt doesn't have to spend as much valuable time and effort to protect the nest from poachers. They can use all of their recruiting resources to focus entirely on the limited number of 'ships and targets that remain.

With the early period, Pitt at least still now has a chance to get another comparable player to replace the guy that committed early but chose not to sign early and then de-committed.

There you go.....Rugger understands the real value.....Any other thought pattern is an Excuse
