Early Vegas odds are out for the Pitt - psu game...

Good! Our Imitation Vanilla Flavoring strategy yesterday appear to have worked perfectly toward building a sense of supreme overconfidence!

In lieu of a guess the score contest this week, the board should have a Guess How High Cultist Fans Will Drive Up This Line?

I keep saying they are going to beat us by 30, then something says, Pitt will cover and be close. Duzz gets more fired up for this game than James from State College.

Back in spring I said PSU -21 and got killed on here by everyone. Yes - PSU fan, but calling it as I see it. Pitt had the edge in 2016. PSU has edge in 2017. But that's why they play the game!

That sounds about right.

State College is one of the best teams in the country. Pitt not so much.

Updated line now...
Pitt +20 1/2

The folks in Vegas are very good at their job, hence the really large and expensive hotels and casinos they have there, but I just don't see Pitt being blown out by 3 td's on Saturday and I'm trying to be objective on the subject.

the books here in lv look for a 10% return. that means they get it wrong 4 out of 10 times. they are good at winning their side but not by much. the sports books make a neglible amount of total casino earning.

What I find alarming , year three of building this program and we are a 21 point underdog to a rival. That's not good , regardless of what they are doing

Id say it's more important to do better against our more important rivals - our conference rivals (VT/Miami/UNC) and win a bowl game for once.

I worry though with all the suspensions, injuries, general bad luck if this season could be a step back. Year 4 though... need improvement then.

All correct. Books hold % most years comes in between 4-6%, total earnings are a minuscule amount of the casinos total take.

The book I worked at took a ton of square tourist money, but in no year did they ever get to that elusive 10% mark.

They don't have a side! The purpose of the line is to keep money even on both sides and make 10% off the "juice". They move the line depending on where the money is going!

Last year you could tell this was a good team holding back in the first game of the season. This year it was obvious this is a bad team. We couldn't even pressure the QB for Youngstown State. I think they win by 24.

Sounds like you know what you're talking about so keep us up to date on the Vegas stuff.
But I've been fooled before!

21 point underdog is disgraceful, no way to spin this.

Absolutely untrue, maybe for a corner bookie but not the way it works in Las Vegas.

Your posts are great to read.

How did you get out there and into books?
If you don't mind.

When we are congratulating every 2 star recruit Duzz brings in, we should be wondering WTF instead! 2 Star recruits with mostly MAC offers make you a 21 point DOG!

Why are you back if you got killed.
I see PSU as a double digit favorite with gamblers....would love to know what coaches think.

Moved here from Pittsburgh in the early 2000's and was lucky enough to get hired as an admin at Caesars Palace book almost right away. We had some turnover very quickly and the director thought enough of me to give me a supervisor position after only a couple months experience.

Stayed there about 5 years and had an unbelievable time and learned a lot about how to book in the big leagues, literally have hundreds of stories. I was the night manager and eventually burned out after awhile, had a hard time getting used to sleeping days and working nights, especially in that atmosphere. Have been out of the business as a bookmaker for almost 10 years but am still semi involved on the other side of the counter helping out an old customer of mine.

The sharps will take Pitt later in the week. Big line to take all of the big ten's large fan bases money who are novice gamblers that see a highly ranked team at home and the results from last week.

Hope it doesn't happen, but I can easily see it. Goes without saying I'm worried about our defense, but I also worry about our offense with Browne if we have to play from behind.

I mean we already seen 2 of the biggest surprising wins of all time this year,Howard was a 40 point underdog and won,and liberty was like a 30 point underdog and beat Baylor,so the spread is pretty pointless, and it's hard to judge pitt based on the fact we don't even know who they really are yet this year, based on the first game last year I would never have expected our offense to be that good

Maybe figuring who is running Dr. Kevorkian's practice these days would be a better use of your time.

I don't think we are going to win, but I don't have a problem with the spread. Doesn't matter if it is right or wrong. Only thing that matters is that Pitt goes to State College and plays well. Playing well still send them home with a 21 point loss. But PSU has a lot of returning starters, same QB, same coordinator, etc..etc...They should be favored by a bunch. Don't forget we still have a couple starters suspended and had a defensive lineman kicked off the team. We are very very young.

The PSU hype train is in full effect.

At this point in the season, we know absolutely nothing about the offensive capabilities of PITT. Defensive improvements will be made this week, along with working on special teams play and giving our kicker more confidence.

Get off the 2-star kick why don't you? It is old and lame.

We have brought in a negligible number of 2-stars and the ones we did were early recruits the coaches really liked who were in reality actually not less than 3-star ability.

IMHO, if you argue that we have recruited far too many 3-stars and not enough 4/5-stars you have a reasonably credible argument to make.
