I was talking with a Pitt buddy today and were discussing how amazing it is that it has only taken Holstein 4 games to look like a bonafide superstar. The only other Pitt freshmen we could remember who were home runs this fast were Fitzgerald, McCoy and Dejuan Blair. I’m sure we missed many others, but he is in rarified air among Pitt freshmen already.

Bub Carrington didn't do too badly for himself. Boyd, etc. They might not have been the elite of the elite, but neither is Holstein just yet. Have to see how he finishes before determining how exclusive his company is.

Dion Lewis was amazing his freshman year.
I am super excited about what Eli has to offer. His pocket presence while looking down field to throw and then determining the right time to run has been the best since....... Palko? He has a better arm and seemingly the same moxy to win games.
I am going to temper my excitement though and see what happens as the ACC schedule takes hold and defenses have some time to watch film of the offense. But yeah, he has the best start of any Pitt freshman that I can remember. And I am pretty damn confident it is going to continue.
Can't wait for Saturday. If we beat UNC and exorcise those demons...... sky is the limit!
Wasn't Alex Van Pelt pretty good? I remember he and Richards and Jells had us all super excited for the 90's. Richards had a huge frosh year. Antonio Bryant, Ramon Walker were great. Fralic was probably the greatest freshman of all time but OL isn't easy for most to pick up on. Johnny Majors II had a great LB his 1st year whose name escapes me.
I'm not old enough to have watched Marino at Pitt, but Eli would be #1 at Pitt freshman QB in my viewing lifetime. It's pretty remarkable considering that he learned a new offense and that the OL is very suspect. Much easier for a players are another position to show their raw talent, but QB has more to learn.
Im as big a fan of EH as anyone as I do think he has a very high ceiling despite the fact that some think he has poor mechanics and is better suited to play TE.... I would even go so far to say that his pocket presence/ability to feel the rush and move around in the pocket is elite combined with plus athleticism and a plus arm.
And I get that its fun to think about stuff like the Heisman and his place in history among freshman but we really wont know until the season is over Lets see how he does against Clemson and the other better teams on the schedule. Of course QB is a position where much of his success will be tied to the health of the rest of the team, particularly the OL
