I hope not. For as much as he excels at shooting the ball, he really struggles at getting it to go through the hoop when he does.
And I'm not sure about how much he excels at shooting it. All of his % have steadily declined from his freshman year.
I remember when Pitt was looking hard at him around the time when Ashton was considering going pro before his senior year. My understanding is that had Ashton left, we would have gotten Carter. And knowing Ashton did not have a great senior year, and Carter had a really, really promising freshman year, I was thinking at the time that Ashton's "staying at Pitt" might have one of those weird things that actually hurt us.
With that, I've watched Carter as much as I could since then. Sometimes he looks pretty decent, while he can really struggle too. Very inconsistent. I don't know how he would stack up against Sterling Smith.
I would be tempted to take a flyer on him, but it leaves Pitt back at the same spot in another year needed immediate SG help. Still, not many options available so this might be one for JD & Staff to consider.
Yeah I worded that poorly, I was trying to say that he shoots the ball a lot and is good at getting shots up, but not at a particularly strong or effective percentage. And I'm not sure he has it in him to come in and take a back seat, as he was pretty darn aggressive and assertive even with Frazier and Finney-Smith being pretty clearly more talented.
