Embarrassing

Not to be a contrarian I would say the effort tonight was not embarssing, but the state of the program definitely is

It’s like Groundhog Day with all of these 2nd half meltdowns. It’s getting old.

I think we were 7-12 from 3 when we were playing well in the 1st half. We finished 10-30. Incredible.

No one should be shocked by any of this. These kids aren’t ready and are being thrown to the wolves.

They’re doing all that is asked of them: going to class, getting good grades, staying out of trouble and playing ball the best they can.

While I agree with all of this, I believe it's becoming more and more evident that the issue isn't just that our young kids aren't ready, but more that they aren't ready nor good enough.

Will they ever be good enough? I’m starting to doubt it

Not Ready, Not Talented Enough, Poorly Coached

Maybe with the exception of Carr and WF, there's nobody else on the roster that would see meaningful minutes on any ACC team. The choice is to keep Stallings to maintain some stability in the program, or start completely over again (which is a terrorizing thought in its own right).

How would starting over be more terrorizing? Maybe I'm missing something. We're winless in conference. We are not good - at all. I feel like these players are working hard but I'm not seeing any improvements.

It would be one thing if you thought someone of serious talent would leave....but there isn't a guy that you say would be a stud player 4 years down the line. Maybe better coaching and development would help the current players more

I still believe Marcus can be a top third ACC guard by the time he's a junior. After that, I'm not very confident that anyone else will become a top 10 starter in the ACC.

I’m seeing more and more out of Brown....

I think Stewart can be a good 6-7 guy.

Stevenson could be a starter.

Peace could be a bench player on good team.

Don’t see where else they have players who will be acc caliber in a couple years

Don't forget the end of the 1st half meltdown we had as well. Outscored 14-4 to close out the half. But that's par for the course with Stallings at the helm.
I didn’t see that because I turned the channel to the Pens. Just as disappointing!

I don't even know that I'd say poorly coached. In this way, I think Stallings may get a bit of a bad rap. I don't think there's been anything wrong with his general coaching approach, per se. But it's evident to me that we simply need to recruit some much better players.

First, this is not entirely a situation of Stallings making...and these players are way over their head at this point, and they're getting worn out from this.

No way to know who the next coach would be; no way to know if Carr will leave; and no way to know what potential recruits we might lose. Another year with Stallings with the players a year older, and with Luther and a couple of the new recruits making contributions, might at least stabilize the program enough to make a better situation to attract a new coach, if that choice is made.

Putting aside the cost of a buyout, keeping or getting rid of Stallings is a very difficult decision, and not without risks either way.

I don't see it. His handle will get better and his shot will too, but fundamentally, he lacks quickness. Can't penetrate at all and break down a defense. He'll be an adequate PG. That's all IMO.

Cruzer

I actually agree with your point about penetration and not being able to break down a defense. This will hold him back in that regard, especially if he's a pure lead guard. However, I sense some savvy in his play and ability to get to the hoop (in the Lamar Patterson sense, if that makes any sense.)

Carr needs to improve as a shooter too. He is south of 30% in conference play from the 3 point line.

Good for the kids. Feel sorry for them on the court to have to be led so miserably.

I think older people think bill Murray is a comic genius while my generation thought Adam Sandler was a genius. Kids today think funny cats on YouTube is funny.

I like them all.

But Murray is an acquired taste

Well the point spread was "only" 23, so it seems as if there were a lot of people that expected a closer game.

Well, the prior 3 games they had finished 4-5 points better than the pre-game ESPN point spread and there was discussion that they were improving. So maybe some were thinking we might lose by less than 20--perhaps by about 15-17 and stay within high single digits until the middle of the 2nd half?

I agree with you about the coaching overall and the absolute need for better players.

That being said, I am very troubled by KS's past history of doing less with better talent than Vandy fans (and others) believe he should have. I am also concerned because what i see as his preferred style of play not being viable in the ACC without the level of talent that UNCs and Dukes possess. I strongly believe that if you are Pitt , no matter who is the coach you will not break into the upper 1/2 to upper 1/3 of the ACC unless you play a more hard-nosed, slower paced defensive oriented style--simply because you will never have the talent level recruited to do it playing the same or similar style as other teams in the upper half of the ACC--you will not out recruit them, IMO.
