Went to the Glazier Clinic in Cleveland this weekend. Eric Thatcher had 3 lectures.
Couple of observations:
1. His title listed in the program was - Pittsburgh Quality Control Coach
His 3 Lecture Titles:
1. Top Drills for Kick Off, Kick Return, Punt and Punt Return
2. Punt Protection in a Pro Style Punt
3. Individual Special Team Mechanics
All of the Power Points were branded Pitt. Much more noticeable than any other coach at the program. Very well done.
He mentioned at Slippery Rock they were a directional kick off team. Made note that Pitt "used" to do the same, but now "Coach Powell kicks it down the middle"
He was very complementary of Powell so far and some of the different concepts he uses on kick coverage and Punt blocking.
I asked him afterwards what assistant coach impressed him the most, he lit up and said, "coach Chaney is the man. I can't wait to see his offense."
I asked what red shirt Freshman has stood out the most so far. He immediately mentioned Phillipe Motley.
He also doesn't know the difference between the blue and white practice jerseys. As mentioned in here, Gold is winner, ACC champ.
Also had positive things to say about Jamal Davis. He also said James Folsten is still at LB.
He also said one of the things Narduzzi asked him during his interview was, do you Tweet? He just got his account set up.
Scott Shafer HC Syracuse also spoke. The guy owned the room. Very high energy. Mentioned that he was an assistant with Narduzzi when they both knew nothing. Very complimentary of Narduzzi in his lectures. Mentioned him often which was kind of weird being that they are competing. Overall great guy.
Finally, Thatcher saw my name tag with hometown Aurora OH. Asked if I knew of Sonny Quaranto. He is a 6'6" 275# OT from Aurora. He is finishing is freshman year making him class of 2018. Great kid 4.0. Hope Pitt is recruiting him.
