why is an ACC game on ESPN 3 this is crazy, someone needs fired
Its on TV!!!!!!!!
Its a syndicated Raycom game. Raycom syndicates to local over-the-air channels. In the Pgh area, its on thisTV.
Raycom is also syndicating Clemson/Uva at the same time so some areas will get that game. If your area is getting Clemson/UVa, then yes, Pitt will be ESPN3 only.
You can't get the local affiliates? I'm happy when that happens. I've been getting Pitt games on Comcast SportsNet in Baltimore, this time we are screwed because the game goes up against Washington Capitals hockey. It could be worse. Try living in NC. All of our games have been getting picked up by local affiliates (and Fox Sports South) and they have been blacked out on ESPN3. I have been forced to watch the games on my phone instead of streaming them on the Roku via TWC.
I am fine, I am traveling and will be in Bay City MI. So I can watch on ESPN3.
What channel is thisTV on DirecTV? Answer...it isn't.
DirecTV does not get WTAE D2 (thisTV). Why would they?
Its free over-the-air. Watch it that way. Change the input on your TV (assuming it has a digital antenna and can pick up the free signal).
Still mired in the 1950's, huh. Antenna?? The lure of "free" seems impossible to resist. (I haven't checked to see if my new SmarTV has an antenna.)DirecTV does not get WTAE D2 (thisTV). Why would they?

It's up to WTAE.KDKA, WTAE, WPXI, WQED, Pittsburgh CW, The Point are all also free over the air channels and I get those on DirecTV. No digital antenna for me so I'll have to watch on my phone or computer. I'm with Cap Pitt, this TV contract stinks.
I don't actually have cable.... only the ESPN option on the Roku. I just thought it was pretty strange when Fox Sports South picked up our ND game. NC State is understandanble, but ND really shocked me.You can't get the local affiliates? I'm happy when that happens. ThisTV (4-2) in Pittsburgh is never in HD. At least not that I've seen. All of the other ACC basketball and football games shown on ThisTV have been in standard definition, so I can't believe that a Pitt game would get bumped up to HD, if it was even possible. My TVs (and they are pretty new) dont have digital antennas but I dont need them because I have cable. Comcast doesnt have thisTV in HD so it would be nice to watch that channel in HD over-the-air but not enough for me to go out and buy an antenna. Now, if I couldnt watch it on TV like some people complain about, then I'd go buy the antenna.
That makes sense. Although every single game we have played has been on the ESPN station lineup, whether ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNNews, ESPNu, or ESPN3. These backed out games were on ESPN3 and showed up on the ESPN App, but were then blacked out because someone picked them up. So I guess this is just the case of ESPN being able to make a few bucks on a game that Raycom/FSS was willing to pay a bit for... but those games were featured on ESPN3 in markets not covered by FSS.ACC's primary TV contract with ESPN.
Whatever games they do not choose fall to Raycom, who has a deal with Fox Sports South to syndicate games. If its not on ESPN, and Raycom isnt doing it, then FSS does the game.
Raycom syndicates to OTA stations. FSS syndicates to RSNs like Root.

Blame your local affiliate for not picking it up...and turfing it to some off-brand channel. Is that a joke? thisTV? The game seriously will not be on ROOT? If that's the case the ACC networking is absolutely pathetic. That's now about 3 games in 2 seasons I can not watch, in Western PA, with the DirecTV sports package upgrade. Sickening.
Yeah not sure the details, but DirecTV in the area doesn't pick up the local channels. PCN and thisTV being the main ones.Blame your local affiliate for not picking it up...and turfing it to some off-brand channel.
I'll have it on my local TV in HD on my local CBS affiliate.

Yes Pittsburgh. It's not the full sports package. I get all the sports channels, but not all the countries local Fox Sports affiliates. So I don't get those and DirecTV just doesn't carry the small local channels like thisTV. All good though I just decided to buy tickets for the game.Which area? Pittsburgh?
If you have the sports pack, I bet it does.
Most every game not locally broadcast for me has been on the Foxsports Sun ( the florida fox affiliate). Channel 653.

There is more than one THISTV. The problem in the Johnstown area is the THISTV our Comcast carries is affliated with another station, not WTAE. WTAE evidently buys the rights then pawns the game off on to it's sister station. So I get THISTV but not the right one.
