Ethan morton sughting

he's one of the main ball handlers on the team playing 25+ min a game and is averaging 1 turnover.

Ethan is an amazing teammate.. I saw it firsthand for 4 years. He played with Devin Carney (Duq) throughout HS and would actually cede shots to him. Carney is a good scorer.. but he's no Morton. He would get his teammates involved first. Still averaaged over 30 ppg as a senior. Morton is very skilled but plays within a system at Purdue. As @BballinsiderfromPitt said, if he's good enough for Matt Painter and the #1 team in the country, I'd say he's doing ok at the college level.

Capel's first visit was to see this kid. He tried to snag him, but Painter had him under wraps well before Capel showed up.

Straight eye Larry?

We will need guards this portal off-season. Why not him?
I dunno if he’s what we need
Jalan and hopefully Dior more fit the bill

To recap when he spurred us we took Femi- who frankly was a more productive player than Ethan.
Ethan May be a solid glue guy-
But his shooting has been below average (outside of FT%)

One thing that has always bothered me is the amount of hair in his armpits. Personally, I think it's all gross and elect to shave mine. But even if you're going to have some, is there not a limit? He looks like he has the entire bands of Ratt and Motley Crue in two separate headlocks. Donate that stuff to Locks for Love or something, man.

Well I don’t know either. Only Capel knows. But he might bring the intangibles that don’t show up on the score sheet and you can’t measure that Femi didn’t have. Cummings is an older mature player who has production and had those intangibles. When he leaves we lose character. Maybe Morton can provide it.

How did that work out for him? Just like most locals who go away.

Priority number 1 in the offseason should be an ace 3 point shooter on the wing unless Hinson tries to move there and we try to go big next year. Dior / Jaland operate best with spacing. Carrington is a big time shooter. We need another one, and Im not sure Barnes is ready.

we'll see what Will and Nate look like next year too. Still bullish on Will and his jump shot. I think he'll be much improved. Improved enough to provide spacing and knock down open jump shots.

The allure of going away and playing in higher profile programs is hard to overcome especially when your hometown program hasn't been. very good .

Both Morton and Puff Johnson would've been better off staying home bb wise , but maybe the experiences they're having outweigh PT .

Hasn't done shit like most locals who go away.

Numbers are important, but basing an argument on just numbers is dumb.

I can give you examples in the NBA every single night. Some empty stat sheet guys that are crucial to teams. Some guys who post solid stat lines aren't good in the flow of the game and aren't winning players.

Kelly Oubre Jr - 20pts-5rebs / game. Career best in scoring.. looking at the stats? yeah, solid player, right? nope. wrong. watch this guy play. Lost on defense. takes some of the worst shots I've ever seen. Has zero awareness on offense.. will completely take a team out of their flow to get shots up.

Jose Alvarado - 9ts-3ast-2reb / game. Not great numbers, right? plays 20+ min a game and scores 9? pretty lousy for an NBA guy, right? nope. Winning player. Smart. gritty. plays hard. Makes the right plays. contributes to winning basketball. I'd take Alvarado over a guy like Oubre every single day of the week.

Morton is a winning player. He proved that at Butler.. that team had no business winning the WPIAL title his final year. Pretty sure they went to the WPIAL finals 3 of the 4 years he played. Currently the starting guard on the #1 team in the country. Watch the kid play before you make reckless statements.

There are plenty of local kids you can argue flamed out that didn't go to Pitt.. Morton ain't one of them.

Puff sat for 38 minutes last Friday and had a scoring line not unlike Gil Johnson. Low single digits

Huh? Butler had 2 D1 players on the team. Did anyone else in 6A have that talent?

Ha. Maybe he's a glue guy because he can't shoot or score in a big time conference. 24% from 3 and 32% from the field are pretty bad.

Hey, all good teams need glue guys. I don't mean this as a knock on him. Purdue will be exposed in or by March, in my opinion, as they always are, but it's still pretty awesome to be a significant minutes guy for a very good program.

I am not a Pittsburgh local, so only providing eyeball input on top of his stats this year. It's not like he doesn't get open looks as their last scoring option.

"no business" was harsh.. they were talented, but they had Carney and Morton.. I don't think another college kid on the team. That's all you really need, but the NA's and Pine Richland's are very well coached teams. Pine Richland is always a powerhouse, despite not having top end talent.

It's funny how "coaching" or even "programs" are as relevant, if not more, in HS Basketball.

Pretty much no matter what level they are playing:
Char Valley
New Castle
Hampton
Highlands
Penn Hills
North Catholic
of course Quippa and Beaver Falls

Isn’t that what Jeffries is

The Running Red Hurricanes are the definition of an identity team
2-3 different coaches , same style - lots of wpial and a couple of state banners hanging .
They are going to full court press all game and shoot well with a bunch of undersized guards

I have no idea. But I’m not going to debate it with you who’s the guy who said Cummings couldn’t play at this level even after watching him play here.

If Capel were to go after Morton, there’s a reason.

Of course we are only care because he’s a local kid.

Ethan Morton is doing just fine. No sense being bitter about him not being at Pitt.
We never had a shot at him.
Thank you Kevin Stallings/Barnes.

Seriously though, probably for the best. If he was doing what he’s doing on a even decent Pitt team we’d probably all be killing him.

I was gonna say, Butler played Mt. Lebanon in 2 of the 3 WPIAL championships Morton was involved in. Butler was clearly the more talented team. I remember Mt. Lebanon just pressed the whole game and western PA basketball isn't good enough to handle a press apparently because that style that Lebo runs works even at the 6A level. If anyone has "no business" winning WPIAL championships, I feel like it is the teams that aren't winning with talent but with a style of play like that.

Not bitter just stating facts

Yeah it’s why when they get to the states and new castle played a team Imhotep Charter with 3 -4 high major starters .
It doesn’t work
It’s like a stallings pitt team trying to speed up Roy Williams unc .
