Every year our bye is at the end

I think they do that for 2 reasons:

1. Pitt basketball needs revenue so renting out the place to the WPIAL for 12 games is one of the most profitable things they can do at this point.

2. There is no expectation that anything they do in March will matter so there is no need for an epic early March game vs Syracuse for example.

If Pitt was expected to be an NCAAT team, they wouldn't have a bye at the end.

buyout is 15 million now and 5 million next season.
Looks like we are stuck with him 1 last season, hence the lack of recruits.
There’s no way that number is correct, but I’m glad his agent put it out! Let the negotiations begin!!!

I don't think it was Capel's agent. I think it was Pitt to show why they can't fire him until March 2023. There is no amount of negotiations that can sufficiently reduce a $10 million difference. Capel will never coach at the P6 level again. He is done making big money coaching basketball. There is no incentive for him to take a penny less so he can go take a $200K salary from NC A&T or 500K to be an assistant somewhere.

And look at that. SMF right again with the 8 figure buyout. Though I gotta say the buyout dropping by $10 million in a year is very shrewd by Lyke. That drop is really hard to believe though.

It wasn't Pitt who put this out.

So you think that HL made a terrible, universally despised (except Wanstache/joeydavid) hire/extension then put out that she can’t fire him because of these terrible decisions? You don’t know much about negotiations. This signals Capel wants to be done here.

I bet you think when names are floated for a job that isn’t agents as well

Yes. Because it seems somewhat smart on Heather's part to give the guy one more year then pay him the $5 million next year.

Would Capel take less to go coach an HBCU? Maybe $1-$2 million, maybe but he isn't giving Pitt a discount considering he is done coaching big-time basketball and he is owed a Brinks truck.

Lol. How are you able to function in every day life

At first I thought it was a booster, but I texted two of them and both said we havent said crap.
Also the buyout isnt that high
and they have the money

but 15mil is a high starting point, also this wasnt a smart agent leak because hes a dead man walking regardless. He wont be able to recruit now and hes giving his players an off ramp.

But maybe that was part of the plan.

Threaten fire for cause. You will not need to go through with it.

The Reid recruitment had to be dirty even on the loser Pitt end. Maybe even a show cause could accompany that.

He’s not owed 15 million. Are you braindead

Oh ok. So the article is incorrect then? I was going based on the article when I should have been going by message board gossip.

I mean he makes $3 million per year so being owed the full contract ($15 million) for a certain amount of time to give the coach protection in building the program....and then a steep drop after that seems to make a whole lot of sense.

He makes more then 3 mil a year and only his first contract was fully guaranteed.

So what's his buyout then? Just $5 million with 5 years left? LOL. Buyouts arr typically a very high percentage of remaining salary. 80% or higher. Capel's agent isnt an idiot

Regardless of the amount of the buyout, let the truckster doofus pay the buyout to get him out of here this year. He made the birdbrain decision to push Dixon out, so let him do something good for the program and push Capel out and pay for it himself. Make himself useful for a change.

So to recap, you believe the article when they put out the $15 million number, but you think that there is no way that the number that they put out for next year in the exact same article is right, because Capel's agent isn't an idiot.

Yes because $15 million with 5 years left sounds correct while $5 million with 4 years left sounds extremely low.

Would you like to guess as to what is correct and what isn't?

I’m not saying PSN doesn’t have accurate scoop from time to time but I am saying they’re not completely credible. So I’d take anything coming from them with a pretty large grain of salt.
The fact that PSN willingly acts as a mouthpiece for disgruntled former coaches and players makes me think they’re full of crap 99% of the time.
