But we all know once this leaves the news cycle and you all go on your summer vacations and 7-8 months pass you'll all be watching the games and buying your tickets and Pitt merchandise. If you're mad fine, but don't pretend like you are quitting Pitt hoops or rooting for the program to lose. Some of the comments here I wouldn't expect from a 5 year old.

-You may be surprised this time. There was no time I can remember pure outrage over a head coaching hire like this, no where near this magnitude. And its still early in the day.

People are pissed because Pitt had a chance to reinvigorate the hoops program but instead picked up a never was off the trash heap. Stallings is not only a mediocre coach, he is a prick and an unlikable man

I think your wrong people were gravitating away to begin with this is the push out the door for those on the fence.

I think that you are probably wrong here. I was already on the fence about renewing my tickets, but this has cemented my decision, and I won't renew. There is no excitement whatsoever with this hire. There isn't even wait and see apathy. There is widespread, WTF disappointment.

I think you and the administration will find out the hard way that this time it's different.

Yeah but you were trying to convince Pitt fans just a bit ago that the Stallings hire may not actually happen and people were jumping the gun on the news that broke last night.

Wrong.
No donations to athletics again

-You are correct. I never thought he was ending up at Pitt. I thought he was going to St. Louis.

And people wonder why Pitt can't get back to competing at the top in football or in basketball. Biggest alumni base in the ACC, among the worst in alumni contributions. Screw football too because the AD hired a crappy coach for basketball. Rabble rabble rabble.

Then you have the people convinced that a bad basketball coach hire means football is doomed too. Somehow.

Maybe I should just go root for OSU or somebody, Pitt is never going to be a premier program in any sport except wrestling maybe I guess with this fanbase.

Yinzerism is spreading like a plague once more. Rawr I don't like the new basketball coach so forget everything, hurt football too to prove your point that you're a good pure yinzer and you don't gotta take this crap. Jump ship, that's something yinzers are real good at. Always have a whiny entitled excuse as to why. Always looking for the next thing to be outraged over so they can quit. Again.

Reach for the xanax already, everyone. Kevin Stallings isn't worth wailing like a little girl that it's all (football too) over and done with and you're quitting. Again. I've never seen fans more eager to find a reason to abandon their teams than Pitt fans. Always on the lookout for an excuse to express their disgusted outrage and beat their chest that they're done like they're taking some kind of brave principled stand. You aren't. You're just cutting and running. Pitt basketball is still going to be around after Stallings and Barnes are gone, and that doesn't look more than a few years off. Pitt football doesn't deserve to be punished because Barnes showed his true colors either.

I could care less about him being unlikable and a pr- ck as long as he can recruit and coach! There have been a lot of great unlikeable coaches over the years.
I still cant believe that the PITT admin is incapable of completing the simple transaction of hiring a basketball coach!

You can't blame alumni for not contributing. The decision making of those in charge has been awful. Whenever a ray of light appears that may energize the base, they get knocked right back down. You can be an alumni and support athletics at other universities. College football and basketball is no different than minor league baseball. Just because you are a Pitt alumni doesn't mean you need to support Pitt athletics

Season ticket sales are now... cancellations are now.

Player transfers and recruit decommits are now.

The pete will be half empty for even conference games next year.

You're clueless.

The market is not as narrow as you think it is. My 4 season tickets are used by 4 of us that have no ties to the university. We root for Pitt basketball because we live here and we like basketball. The competition for our dollars are with RMU, Duquesne, and even WVU. I can get emotionally invested in one of those teams very easily.

I think you could be wrong about this one. We've had 4 tickets since the first year they opened the Pete and if this goes through then i'm certain we wont' be renewing them. If i feel the itch to see a game live I'm sure we'll be able to buy tickets on any given game day. I still hope Pitts succeeds and wins every time they play but i have no confidence after this hire.

Open you eyes and your mind. This hire, if true, proves Pitt is run by Morons or Penn State Alumni.
This isn't on the fans. This is on 30 years of administrative incompetence. This is on Pitt's administration, not the fans. My God. 75% of the dopes that post on here could make a more acceptable hire than Kevin Stallings ( and I don't even give a crap about basketball ).

A ridiculously SAD day for Pitt .

Not that it matters for you! As you said you cancelled your season tickets a while ago because they kept moving your seats ( or something like that) and you now buy tickets on the open market?

But if this guy is as bad as people are saying good points!

Totally agree.

Once Stallings does his presser in the next couple days you'll see many Pitt fans here suddenly saying "Hey, he's actually a good hire" or "Hey, give him a chance" or "Hey, don't know about you, but I was pretty impressed with him today--maybe we all had him pegged wrong".

The hire isn't on the fans. The ridiculous hysterical reactions are. I'm done with Pitt athletics! Narduzzi will leave! I have yet another reason to say the same thing I've been saying for 20 years, that I'm disgusted with Pitt athletics and I'm done! Of course I've still been here for those 20 years... but this time is the last straw! I'm serious!

The earth will continue to orbit the sun, and if/when (more like when) Stallings crashes and burns and takes Barnes with him, Pitt basketball will still be there.

If it were 30 straight years of incompetence, I guess the Narduzzi hire doesn't count anymore, right? Neither does hiring Ben Howland or hiring Jamie Dixon. Or Walt Harris. All good hires.

And Dixon leaving certainly is on the fans. There was zero reason for him to leave except the good old yinzer run the bum out of town train was gaining more and more steam. The most ardent Dixon-haters are now crying in their Jamies-Gone! beer, aren't they? Be careful what you wish for.

If you want Pitt to win you can't throw a temper tantrum all the goddamn time, and that's what Pitt fans love to do. Have a good tantrum. So don't support basketball because Stallings is a horrible hire. Fine. Puff out those chests and continue doing another thing Pitt fans love to do, not support football either. That's what Pitt football deserves. Dip out entirely because you're mad about basketball, right when Pitt finally has a legitimate shot to be good at football again. And don't forget baseball, women's BB, volleyball, wrestling, all of the other sports. They all deserve to take a hit because the AD hired a bum to be the new men's BB coach, right? No, they don't.

Don't sit there acting like there's no connection between Pitt's fanbase not contributing and not supporting Pitt athletics and Pitt athletics being mediocre. If going all-out on abandoning Pitt athletics is supposed to have an impact, and it assuredly will if enough fans do it... well if people would open their eyes and minds they'd see what 30 years of piss-poor fan support has wrought. If the fans aren't involved and wielding their influence and increasing it, you get guys like Smiley Steve running the athletic department for 15 years doing whatever dumb things they want because there's not enough people with enough pull to put pressure on the people who could stop them. If Pitt fans ever tried going all-out in support, maybe they'd find out they could have more influence on the administration. Maybe even to the point where guys like Stallings would never be considered, and Barnes would still be at Utah State. Pitt fans will never have the chance to find out, though, they're too busy declaring they're not going to have any influence, instead of trying to increase their influence.

I guess I'm just tired of hearing how it's not the fanbase's fault, nope, not one bit, never was, never will be. It's our entitlement to have winners dropped in our laps by the university, and screw em if they don't deliver. We've been subjected to incompetence for so long, they don't deserve a thing from me, blah, blah, blah. That may even be (probably is) true. But it isn't going to accomplish what we want accomplished. It's a narrative of defeat and shirking any kind of responsibility for the past, present or future. It's certainly not behavior that will result in Pitt athletics producing winners.

Standing up and taking responsibility doesn't have to mean excusing others or taking blame you don't deserve. It could mean taking the responsibility to do your part turn things around. Cutting and running isn't the way to do that.

I agree. Unfortunately you cannot earmark your donations to Pitt Athletics to only football or basketball. I will continue to give my donation because of football.
I will not, however, be renewing my season tickets for Pitt basketball. Just because I'm served a shit sandwich doesn't mean I have to eat it!

Really... if I read one more "I'm withholding my $50 donation..." I'm gonna hurl. THAT'S the problem. Bunch of whiners and not enough people to put up the $$. Just of bunch of big talkers.

The trib article says it all. If you're counting on a surgeon (though wealthy) to bank roll your athletic program, you are in dire straights. You need hedge fund guys to back you and definitely not a bunch of $50 mouths.

It might be a decade before Pitt basketball recovers from this hire. The honeymoon with Barnes is over - the dude just shortened his career at Pitt.
