Whoever shoots it better will win. Neither team be can defend. Both teams are excellent offensively. They say basketball is a make or miss game. Thats certainly true for this game.

This ND team is different from the usual ND teams. They have a penetrating PG which we haven't seen this year. They are also very good underneath with Auguste and Colson.

The X factor for them is VJ Beachem. He has become an assassin. 40 3's made at 46%. Vasturia is at 39% and Jackson at 41%. However, they usually only have 3 3 pt shooters on the floor at the same time instead of 4 and they arent deep. They only play 7.

ND is beatable. I think the teams are pretty even but we'll have to win an 84-80 type of game.

Haha ... I was thinking it was going to be SMF linking someone else's analysis!!

Just kidding SMF!!
If he was in fact referring to himself, I would find that to be bizarre. Even if he were an expert, to refer to oneself that way is pretty bold. Is bold the right word?

But these 84-80 games are going to be more the norm for us, so I think we are comfortable at that rate were before it would feel like we are flying along out of control.

I think we will be more comfortable playing these 84-80 games if we get out to a lead.

I worry about our ability to score to come from behind in the final 10 minutes or so.

I just happened to check out the ND stats myself as well as comparing them to our stats and watched a bit of the ND/BC game (BC is like a BAD cupcake).

We are scoring 85 PPG and they are just scoring 78 PPG. They have put in 26 more three balls (in 14 games each) than us, 78 more points, but we have scored 111 more points from the stripe and 64 more points in 2balls.

They have a pretty balanced attack but only play 7 players and the starters are averaging around 30 MPG (Jackson is averaging 35.4 MPG) while our starters are averaging around 25 MPG (Robinson is tops at 27.8).

The biggest thing about this team is their PFs can hit the 3ball (Beachem has put in 40 already). So, if our PFs do not get out there and cover them they are gonna be hoisting a lot of them.

I don't think they have anybody at the talent level of a Mike Young or a Jamel Artis, but they have good players and their starters are out there for almost the entire game.

On D they sometimes play man and sometimes zone. I don't think either of those will present us with problems.

The biggest thing for US... is it will be our first true road game.. and it is unknown how the team will perform. We are starting 3 seniors and 2 juniors but still it is an unknown. AND, ND is always a tough place to play.

On D, it is a matter of our players doing what they are supposed to do. Too many 'Oops' will be bad news.

On a neutral court, IMO we beat this team. But, at ND, hard to say.

In general I worry about any major deficit at any point in the game with his team. Our defense isn't good enough to consistently get stops so we have to hope we score at a high rate while the other team starts to shoot poorly.

Team has some ugly losses. I tried to watch them last night to see if they had their typical little white shooting guard who will go 7-8 from the 3 against us but was so annoyed at the camera in the rafters angle (reminded me of a duke game) that I quit watching.. Losses to Monmouth, bama (who looks very average), Indiana, and Virginia..

Got to imagine we are the favorite in this game here..

Notre Dame is just plain bad this year. If anything this is a trap kind of game. Would be a very bad loss for Pitt though.

It's impossible for a road game against a middle tier ACC to be a VERY bad loss. It wouldn't even be a bad loss. You're being a little over-dramatic.

To be fair, the OP never claimed to be an expert on basketball.

Totally agree with your statement. But talent-wise, Notre Dame is not even in the same country as Pitt. Not knocking Notre Dame, but this is an incredibly talented and deep Pitt team this season.

I hope you're right!

Would be great if Beachem goes 1 for 7 from 3 point range and Vasturia goes 2 for 9 but you know that wont happen.
