By July 4th we will be saying— What virus? This overboard over reaction will already be a fading memory by summer, IMHO.

More like "Remember Uncle Joe and Aunt Ethel."

This is going to kill people and everyone will have someone they know or a family member who dies.

Maybe and I pray it is. But right now, precautions need to be taken because people at are at risk. Right now I'm ok being inconvenienced if it means protecting elderly and people in poor health. L

I have no problem with reasonable precautions. However, what I am seeing at my local COSTCO as evidence of public over reaction and near total panic goes well beyond reasonable precautions and is bordering on lunacy. One would think the bubonic plague has returned in full force.

I’ll root for your scenario but I’ll lay my money elsewhere.

It all depends if it the virus is like the flu and is not prevalent in warmer weather. That is the scenario we all need to be praying for. If that is the case, hopefully a vaccine can get created between now and then. I think that is the best case scenario.

Don’t worry, the cure for the coronavirus is bread and milk!

I wonder if the same folks who refuse to be vaccinated for the flu, will also refuse inoculation for this when it becomes available.

You're certain it'll spread that far??

It's already just about everywhere. Infections will only increase and many people will be sick. Most will recover just fine. A small percentage won't, with most of them being older.

We just need to delay the infection rate so that hospitals don't get overloaded.

If we do it will not because we over reacted. It will be because the over abundance of caution slowed the spread of the and prevented out health systems from being overloaded. Yet blow hard idiots who don’t understand the science of how viruses spread will say see I told you so we over reacted. Just like the same idiots who think they can get the flu from the flu shots.

Here's the thing. Because other people are going to panic and stockpile, you yourself are at a disadvantage if you dont. If food/grocery workers cant make deliveries then you might be in a messy situation if you dont have certain household supplies on hand

For what it’s worth, I was listening to the Joe Rogan podcast and the infectious disease expert on the show said we shouldn’t bank on warm weather killing the virus. He pointed to Mers which started in the middle east where its hot all the time.

That happens with everything. Remember 1999? But you still have to be smart, take precautions, and try to have empathy which seems to be hard for people in society today.

Tom Hanks was in Australia when he caught it. I don't believe it's very cold down there.

I certainly hope so. What I also hope comes out of this is that the country realizes it probably wasn't the smartest idea to outsource everything to some 3rd world hellhole where someone eats a live rodent and our whole economy and supply chain goes down. China threatening to withhold drugs from the US will hopefully be a wake up call to start re-establishing manufacturing here. Not a knock on any one administration/party. This has been a steady slide for quite a long time.

A lot of these third world hellholes seem to be managing better than us. Vietnam is testing more people than us. Freaking Vietnam.

Correct. Politics be damned, EVERYONE should agree with this.

What does that have to do with China and other hellholes starting these weird viruses and destroying our way of life with them?

Problems always arise. You could cut off contact with the entire world and live in a cave with your family and eventually someone even in that small of a circle will get sick or have an accident. Cutting yourself off from the world won't protect you from harm.

The difference between success and failure in life for a society is good leadership. Some countries seem to have it and others clearly don't.

Never said to cut us off from the rest of the world, but we should limit our exposure for essential items. You are being snarky with your leadership comments, I feel that is out of line. Once the outbreak started in China, there was nothing to be done that wasn't going to affect the USA. We are too exposed to them no matter who is president.

Elected leadership in a free society is only leadership with the consent of its citizens. Just like I have the choice to choose leadership that I believe represents the best investment in our society, I have every right to hold my elected leadership responsible for their failures.

Let's cut the BS. You've certainly pointed the finger at political leaders before. Don't get all huffy when others do it.

So, if Trump imposed the new restrictions 3 weeks ago, his opponents would have applauded?

I have pointed the finger when the situation calls for it. In this particular situation, there is/was nothing a President could have done to stop it. We are way too exposed to China for any person or group to prevent this from affecting this country. Trust me I get that Trump says crap he shouldn't and he sounds like a buffoon a lot and even in this case he did just that. With that said, if you want to blame Trump be my guest, I just feel you are wrong as Hilary, Obama, Bush, Reagan, Kennedy, etc could do no better given the same circumstances.

Contrary to belief, a lot (most?) people don't want Trump to fail. This is true even for people that didn't vote for him. Because a lot (most?) of us know that we're all in this boat together and our fates are intertwined whether we like the guy or not. So we hope that it goes well, because if it goes well it will probably go well for most of us. That would be a good thing.

I find it hard to believe that no President could have done better when South Korea and Vietnam are clearly doing better than we are right now.

Much like college football seasons are won and lost in the winter/spring, this situation is a result of 25+ years of really stupid decisions on our part. Viet Nam is not somewhere I'd prefer to model ourselves after either lol.

97% of our ingredients for antibiotics come from China..past .presidents from BOTH parties failed our country.

First of all you state they are doing/have done better, how do we know this FOR SURE? It is not like they have the media in those countries like we have here. We are in tuned to the happenings of this country and the media sensationalizes it. Other countries (Asian countries in particular) do the exact opposite, and suppresses information.

What is happening sucks, but lets not act like others are doing better. Like college football, we can assign who signed the best class in February, but you won't know how great a class was until 3 to 4 years after they signed. Same thing applies here.

The best thing everyone can do, is take proper precautions (limit exposure to sick and elderly, wash hands, etc) and not panic.

Presidents and legislators - all of them. It's ridiculous really that there were people in public health warning about this, but we did nothing. Problem is that once in office, elected officials sole goal is to remain there. As a result, if it didn't buy any political capital at the time to jump on this issue, there was no motivation to do so. Unfortunately now that there is a crisis, perhaps it will lead them to act.
