They haven't played good defense in a few weeks.
This is true. Having said that, we would never have been in a position to challenge for a conference title had Fede not came out of no where to make us a competent defense. Maybe he ran out of gas playing against stronger players all year long. I'm not sure what accounts for it, but late season Fede, beared no resemblance to early season Fede.He (and capel's decision to keep playing him) has been the reason this team might have played themselves out of the NCAA tournament.

He clearly was not boxing up and gave up tons of 2nd chance points in this game. I'm not saying he sucks or won't play better in the future. But he was awful the last couple of games. Pitt was clearly better when he was on the bench and the twins were playing.Stop

That’s what I was thinking as I was watching the latter part of the game. Almost wishing that one of the twins would have been in there instead of Fede down the stretch. He shouldn’t have been in there - one of the twins should have played down the stretch.
Yeah you’re 100% right, he’s had a fantastic year. But that sure doesn’t change the fact that he was real real bad today and a big contributor to the loss.Silly
He has had a fantastic year, with better days ahead. Capel played both twins for a long stretch, so it’s not like he didn’t try something different.
So again…silly. On both points.
Suggesting playing the Euro twins over Fedi is just silly. He (and capel's decision to keep playing him) has been the reason this team might have played themselves out of the NCAA tournament.
Can I give you the benefit of the doubt that you knew he wasn’t suggesting to play the twins over Fede all the time.Suggesting playing the Euro twins over Fedi is just silly.
Did you watch the game? Not dumping on Fed but he was HORRIBLE today. Whereas the twins showed grit and contributed on both ends of the court. For him to get as much run that he did was a major mistake by Capel.Suggesting playing the Euro twins over Fedi is just silly.
Ok, come on. I'm not saying the should play over him all the time. But in a game where he is being beaten badly they should play more like they did last night. Especially when they can go outside and hit open threes pulling the defense out to them. My issue is it takes Capel too long to figure out he isn't have a great game and doesn't make the change at all (i.e. ND loss) or a little too late like last night.
I think he's a textbook example of a dude just worn down at this point. When you aren't even attempting to box out or rebound you're either as you said "on the take" lol or you are just tired and don't have that intensity anymore. He needs a whole offseason of strength training and eating and he'll be a damn beast next season for us. I'm confident of that.I counted at least 5 times he stood there and watched under the basket today. No body on anyone. I thought he was on the take...
Watch him on that put back dunk. That was a huge momentum play. Just watching and not boxing out at all...
He's my favorite player. Better days ahead, but I think it's fair to say he was one of the main factors in our loss today.
Yesterday was a game for "men" on the inside. Unfortunately, Pitt just didn't have the horses.Did you watch the game? Not dumping on Fed but he was HORRIBLE today. Yeah that was an old school style Big East game on the interior yesterday and Fed Squared was bullied and looked exhausted in the second half. Pitt needs a MAN in the transfer portal like that Ormier kid. That or a refocused and hungry Big JohnYesterday was a game for "men" on the inside. Unfortunately, Pitt just didn't have the horses.
The twins might get there some day in the future, but a breath of wind knocks them to the floor. They just aren't strong enough to out-muscle anyone for a rebound or loose ball. I agree that they play with some tenacity, and that provides some hope of what they can become with a couple years of proper weight training.
I agree, I really like him as a player (perhaps less so this past week lol) and hope he can progress, as you mention.I think he's a textbook example of a dude just worn down at this point.
