I spoke a bit this evening with West Palm Beach (Fla.) American Heritage defensive end Noah Curtis, a three-star athlete/defensive end. Scout previously reported that Curtis would be taking an official visit to Pitt, but I wanted to get the chance to speak to the kid myself and get a feel for where things are at in his recruitment.
"I'll be taking official visits to Toledo on January 14th and Pitt on January 20th," Curtis said. "I've been talking most frequently with Pitt, Toledo, Arkansas, Bowling Green, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Tennessee, UConn, and Mizzou so far."
Curtis has offers from nine schools in Power Five conferences: Arkansas, Iowa State, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Pitt, and West Virginia. He's a 6-foot-5, 220-pound defensive end and one of Pitt's remaining targets on the "short list" to fill the final defensive end spot. Curtis is one of six defensive ends who will officially visit in January now, so he's another name to keep an eye on. Pitt's had both his area recruiter, Tim Salem, and position coach, Tom Sims, going after Curtis and they've hit it off well.
"I have a good relationship with coach Salem and coach Sims, I talk with one of them every day. I like how their program is on the rise right now and also that they share the same facilities with the Pittsburgh Steelers," Curtis said.
The recruiting process is beginning to wear on Curtis somewhat and after he takes his last official visit on January 27th, he's looking forward to being done with the process.
"I haven't decided which school is going to get that last visit [between those he named above], but my recruitment is starting to stress me out. I can't wait for it to be over, honestly," Curtis explained,
Curtis also went on to elaborate that fans of the school he picks should expect to see him "dominate on the field and help out my community off of the field." He also said that academics will be one of his key deciding factors.
Curtis took a lengthy unofficial visit to UNC in September and they've been considered perhaps the team to beat in his recruitment by many since that point in time. He claims no leaders, however. His senior highlights are embedded below:
