Florida State Game & Other Dribbles ...

Why I don't post much anymore.

Neither you nor nobody else has seen Dior Johnson play a college game.
He's never played a D1 game, much less a P6 game
He got himself in trouble--not a great indicator for a PG
While Cummings has 5..5 yrs of D1 experience, including 2 NCAA runs
Yet you have no trouble elevating DJ to starter status

Yes Cummings is a streaky shooter
Why he got a pass for his terrible play in the waning minutes of Clemson, I still don't know.
Yes he's a "nice little player"
Yes he's little--as in really short
But he's been serviceable, capable, for the most part steady ballhandler, and a great foul shooter.

I hope DJ's good
However, his film doesn't overwhelm
He doesn't look high-end athletic
Nor does he appear to have amazing PG skills

Maybe we'll find out nxt yr
Didn't know I held that much sway over you, LOL.

Dior was brought in here to start. By all accounts, expected to be "one and done" player. Whether he would have lived up to the billing, I agree, that would still have been TBD. But the depth chart at PG going into this season had he not gotten into trouble would have been Dior #1 and Nelly #2.

Yep, I sure do. He’s talented and a pretty smart BB player as well.
Ok. I feel your perspective is coming from five years of crap play to a year of decent play. But if Jamarius was like those guys we would probably not have so many issues with losing big leads.

Agreed 1000% .Nelly is a beyond serviceable point guard. These same guys salivated over justice kithcart
I wasn't saying Nelly is a bad player. I simply pointed out that "he's not quite the caliber of PG needed to excel in this league." Considering the fact that HCJC has often opted to have Burton handle that role instead of Nelly kind of makes my point.

I for the most part agree
with your opening premise.
However you then go on to
mention Elliot, Nellie, and
Nike. Had they done what
you describe (and they've
done it this season), we
more than likely would've
won despite Fl St's 50 %
from threes.
Well , you don’t often see 2 teams shooting 50% from three !

When all three are hitting from 3 plus Hinson Pitt would be a tough out for anyone . Interesting enough Burton is statistically the best from 3 ( except Hugley at 50% ) . Nelly at 30% needs to be more selective and IMO Elliot needs to knock down the wide open looks he gets in clutch time .

Nelly needs to be a complimentary piece not a focal point of the offense.

He’s a bad shooter who shoots a lot .
He’s had 1 great shooting game - that’s not streaky. .

He needs to recognize his role is to be point guard and pass - or he needs sat

It’s fairly evident who coach actually trusts to make a play

This matchup scared me just based on their overall length and ability to shoot.

This was also one of those games where, especially in the past, we let a poor shooting night affect decision making and defense.

I hate some of the "Quad 1, 2, 3, 4 wins/losses" As Pitt is a different team now than November, so is Florida State.

Next two games will determine the outcome of the season I feel.

It’s 3 home coin flip games in a row
Hard to argue we need no fewer than 1 win

I posted that I agreed with
your basic premise about
teams hitting 50% of threes.
However, the main point I
made was about what WE
DIDN'T do. Nike was 1-6
from the field and 0-4 on
his threes. If he plays half
as well as he's been doing
lately, we win this game
even with Fl. ST's 50%. The
same with Cummings, 2-12
from the field and 1-8 from
threes. He plays anywhere
near what he's been doing,
we win this game...again even
with the 50% on threes.
Same with Hinson early. Plus
our overall lousy floor game.
We lost it.....it's not all on
50% made threes.

I totally agree if Pitt would’ve shot the ball better they’d have won , but they didn’t .

Nike and Nelly are both streaky shooters and you just hope that it doesn’t happen at the same time .

I thought it was two pretty even teams actually. They have pretty good guards too. They may be younger, but they can play. They just shot it better, and that was pretty much the difference. I doubt they wind up a quad 4 loss, they are getting better each game. Of course it may not matter depending on what we do in the next two.

They had one guy win the game for them by taking it over
Kinda like turnaround for us in few games
