According to John Dudley at the Erie Times. Does that mean he backed out or Pitt is in process of hiring someone else. We should know soon.

It probably means that Pitt screwed this up as they usually do. We can only hope that there is someone else they are considering that is better.

But Pitt has never done anything for us to believe that a better candidate will be hired. Sigh. I'm beginning to wonder why I donate to Pitt athletics. Once they screw up with Narduzzi and he leaves, I may stop donating all together.

I'm still upset by the apparent mishandling of Pat Santoro who by accounts was willing to come to Pitt and who had the Pitt wrestling community excited and ready to donate .... he would have been a huge upgrade ..... by insider reports, Pat wasn't even given an offer during the interview.

Now Flynn, a very good coach, wants to stay at Edinboro.

I'll wait though to see who we actually hire before forming a final opinion ..... I just hope we end up with someone who can elevate the program to national prominence !

This seems to be going really really well.

Swimmingly. Not sure how this compares to what you've heard or know, but she basically came in and said - I dont care who you are looking at, we are doing it my way.

bwh05 well I guess its headley or kocher. what a disgrace thie committee is.
Who's on the committee? Are they the same folks who brought us Stallings? Hawood? Graham? Our committees don't exactly have a great track record, so maybe she just wanted to interview more than 1 or 2 candidates? I don't know, just trying to make sense of what is going on here.

chaos I hope you are right. if she promotes one of the assts then its no different than the way peters was hired.

yes, that would be a huge disappointment, especially after listening to the analysts at the ncaas discussing the Pitt wrestlers' tactical decisions being attributed to poor coaching.

We need a coach who has experience on a national scene. Someone who has coached at a power wrestling school ie. PSU, Iowa, OSU. This is necessary for recruiting and how to run a program. We do not need another Pitt guy unless this person has coached elsewhere. Santoro fit the bill well. Fly would also. So unless they have their sites on someone like Brands or Cunningham, this process seems to be heading for failure. This is what happened to Pitt wrestling back when they hire Rande. He was a good man and could coach, but he had zero experience anywhere else. That is why he failed to make us a national program. Same with Peters.

Terry, won't leave Iowa. The top two guys, worth looking at, IMO are Cunningham(PSU) and J Jaggers(Ohio State). With Lykes connection to Ryan and Ohio State...I bet She is at least looking at J Jaggers. 2X National Champ and Ohio State's top assistant to Ryan. Jaggers could be a name to keep an eye on.

If you can't land someone from Edinboro, you're a lost cause. Seriously, that school is an absolute mess...just in terrible shape, but perhaps it actually runs its athletics department better than Pitt.

Unless there is some surprise in store, this is just about as incompetent as you can get.

This would be hilarious if it weren't for the way two good coaches were treated badly and the missed opportunities for Pitt.

It's rare to see such incompetence displayed so quickly in a tenure.

It's going to be great to watch her try and find someone better than Santoro or Flynn.

I wonder how long Narduzzi will put up with her act.

I am not disputing anyone, but I find it funny that everyone assumes its the AD's fault that both Flynn and Santoro didn't accept the job. It sounds like she offered it to them both, but for whatever reason they didn't accept. Does anyone know what they demanded from Pitt? Were they using it as leverage only and not really interested in the job? Were there demands unrealistic? I don't know the answer, but there has to be someone who has the facts. There are three sides to everything!

They've got Bruce Baumgartner running the show up there - something to be said for having a living legend in the wrestling community as your boss. That's some job security.

Is Flynn really that good or is his career like Jamie's - off the charts early success followed by decline and stagnation? How old is he? I don't follow wrestling all that much - Asking those that do

Tim Flynn's Edinboro team finished third in the country at the NCAA championships in 2015. That's at Edinboro. Third in the country.

Good luck finding someone more accomplished who wants to coach at Pitt.

guys how do we know they were treated badly. I find that hard to believe. we cant believe internet rumors. one poster told us that Flynn agreed to take the job. no one knows whats really going on. I just feel that pitt doesn't take wrestling serious. some people are blasting the new a.d.. we don't even know if its her or these coaches wanting too much.

Who said they were treated badly?

And he won the National Coach of the Year award in 2015.

i do not agree. I talked to someone very close to Terry at the NCAA's. I was told that Terry would leave Iowa if the offer was good enough to make him leave. I assume that would be 250 a year plus commitment from the school.

Maybe you quoted me by mistake, but i was not implying that Terry wasn't looking or that Pitt wasnt making a play for him. I was just simply stating a fact - Flynn won coach of the year in 2015.

I hear ya. There's something seriously wrong when a school with Pitt's resources and cachet can't poach a coach from Edinboro (Edinboro!?!) - provided that they really wanted him.

The more I see this miss after miss spread to other PITT sports I actually wonder if PITT admin is actually interested in any PITT sport. The hiring of Lyke wasn't a confidence booster so I guess we'll see!
Why cant this U put together a team who is interested, and competent in sports management to run good programs!??

Just don't see it. Would love it, but with his Son Nelson, recently committing to Iowa. That would be a long shot. What are your thoughts on Casey Cunningham? Hearing anything there?

If Terry were to come to Pitt, Nelson would come with him. Now I really doubt any of that to happen. Pitt just doesn't care enough or doesn't have a clue how to go about having a top caliber wrestling team.
I believe Cunningham would be a knock out selection, but I have heard nothing that makes me believe he has even been considered.

He is early-50's I think. In my opinion, his career has not declined or stagnated at all. He's at Edinboro, they had to rebuild the line-up a little bit, and they may never get third again. But he is competing with a way worse hand of cards than the rest of the top 10. Of course, he probably has better cards than the rest of the EWL. if this puts it into perspective, I would rank his performance way ahead of Pat Narduzzi's, who seems to be very popular with Pitt fans.

Don't blame the search committee for this. They had it setup perfectly. Santoro was ready to come. He was the home run hire. He should have been the first and last interview. Our new AD screwed the pooch on this big time. She lost Santoro. Then she lost Flynn, who also was set to come. Her first full week on the job has been a total unmitigated disaster. Her first hire is a total mess. She is starting off worse than the reincarnation of SP.

She is supposed to excel at fundraising. While, barring a surprise, like Cael or Tom Ryan -- and we all know those ain't happening -- I am stopping my contributions to the AD as long as she is in charge. I will still contribute to the CAS, but not a cent to the AD. I already sent a letter to her with a copy to the Chancellor confirming this and outlining in detail the reasons, which are this incredibly incompetent foul up of the wrestling hire. I am not going to quote numbers, but let's just say my annual contribution is not a small one.

RIP Pitt wrestling. You have a great tradition but a totally incompetent AD has now buried you.

Hasn't wrestling been average for a long time now? They will probably stay the same. Rex Peery was the coach the last time they were great and that was a long time ago.

It clearly has been no better than average for a long time. But, there is tradition, a great recruiting base, and wrestling is the easiest and fastest sport to turn around. There are plenty of examples. PSU was better than average but never mentioned in the same breath as the traditional powers until Sanderson arrived there. Now, 6 NCAA championships in 7 years, and it has replaced Iowa as the gold standard. TOSU was a Big Ten bottom feeder before they hired Tom Ryan. Now, probably the only program in the country which can challenge PSU the next 3 years. VT and NC State were nothing until recently. Now, both consistent top ten programs.
