Early in the 4th quarter, right before the offsides play that gave Navy a key 1st down. .. Narduzzi was really animated and giving the business to the head referee. He was angry and arms flailing and very animated for a good 2 or 3 minutes. The head ref just kept nodding his head as Narduzzi got angrier. This lasted the entire time out. Then the head ref went and talked to the line judge. Then he shrugged his shoulders at Narduzzi and Narduzzi just gave a dismissive hand wave to the ref.

Anyone know what this was about? It was right in front of where we were sitting around the 30 yard line.

There was a bad missed chop block that got him riled but not sure if that was what you are referring to

Two Navy Seals popped up from under the turf on the 29 and " convinced " the officials to ignore the chop block!
Tough home venue for visitors!
Other than that I didn't see anything unusual.

There was a ton of movement before the snap by Navy on offense, along the line and in the backfield , Navy seems to get a way with alot of it every week whereas a traditional offense gets flagged with every little flinch. Just a guess.

I think it was the obvious chop block that went uncalled.

From what I remember the announcer's came back from a commercial pointing this out, but then just let it drop. I was wondering if anyone there knew what had happened.

He was also pi#sed about Peterman getting targeted. They say it wasn't, but I agree with coach. And Whithead took a nasty block to the legs.I didn't think you could block below the waist? This whole game made you want to ram your head through your TV.Don't get me wrong, we had some nice moments, but on a whole it was frustrating to watch.Playing Navy is just irritating.I had this same feeling the last time we played there. And other than UCLA playing in a occasional Rose Bowl, who the fu#k gets to play a home bowl game? That sucked as well.Cant they move this dam# game to balt or dc?

You can block below the waste. That's not a chop block. The defense just can't be engaged with another blocker.

It may have been their stadium, but half the crowd was made up of Pitt fans.

They may have been used to the lighting and locker rooms, but they didn't have a home field advantage beyond that.

Yes there was an illegal chop block, high/low blocking. It's their and Gtech's tradmark. Happened a few times

By the way, the 4th down offsides... by rule was a false start. Our guy got back, the guy he was engaging didnt move. The tight end moved and pointed to our DT and they called offsides, when that, by rule is a false start. So, Narduzzi was irate over that as well

Maybe not the crowd but, when Navy is playing on their home turf - where they played every home game, that's a home field advantage.

How much w/ all of the Pitt fans there? Who knows but come on - they had an advantage there.

At the game, It pretty clearly seemed like a Home Field Advantage for Navy, although our fanbase had it's moments. I'd say 70/30. Not sure what it looked like on TV.

easily was 50/50 there. Even in the Navy section, we I had 6 pitt fans, there was probably 20% Pitt there. You can hear the roar especially after the whitehead td that pulled us close, and during the 3rd quarter intermission the place went nuts. Sounded like a home game. I know Dion, you cant say anything positive about Pitt since you love the peds but, it was true. Maybe if you were such a great Pitt fan you woulda been at the game and seen it.

If there were no students leaving after Sweet Caroline, then our team was in unfamiliar territory in the 4th quarter.

Plus the real advantage was the home cooking that Navy received from the officials. It felt like a Duke basketball game at Cameron Indoor.

Is being engaged with another player the only rule regarding chop blocks, or does where it happens come into play as well (inside the pocket/hashes, etc)?

good question, their receivers were also doing it.

I know if you chop from behind it is illegal always as well, even if not engaged with another blocker. It is what it is. Gtech does the same thing. A good game defending it is giving up 200 yards rushing. Hats off to Navy for passing so much in the first half and surprising us.

Even a team as bad as Army, who threw only ONE pass the entire game against ped got 300 yards, and they were horrible all year. Difficult to stop if the QB is good and they have a big strong FB. Army's averaged 8 yards a carry (for real 8 yards a carry) against psu

I think the play that Narduzzi was so irate about was the obvious block in the back on a screen pass in a third and long situation (3rd and 17). This allowed Tillman to make a big play to the outside.

There were several bad calls, including the offsides call that should have been a false start. At the end of the day, PITT just didn't execute on either side of the ball, which the players and coaches are to blame for.

Edit: Wrong play. The block in the back was when Romine went for a long gain to the outside.

WR Can cut block downfield, but they aren't allowed cut defenders aligned inside of them.

You weren't at the game nitter.

The whole west side of the stadium and half of the endzone "hill" seats were pitt fans. The east side of the stadium, the other half of the "hill", and the North end zone were Navy.

Pitt fans were 45% of the crowd.

Reading Comprehension my friend. I was at the game.
I think you're lying.

Check that, I know you're lying.

Nobody that was actually at the game would say 70-30.

But you know who would say that? A nitter pretending to be a Pitt fan who is also pretending he was at the game.

15,000 Pitt fans, minimum, at the game. If you say otherwise, you were not there.

The number of people who bitch about this and yet don't understand the difference between a legal cut block and an illegal chop block is astounding.

For the record, Narduzzi's complaint was that there actually was an obvious chop block on the play, in the backfield in open space on the defensive lineman (I don't remember who it was) who was chasing after the quarterback. If you watched Narduzzi while he was yelling at the ref it was obvious that's what he was complaining about because of the hand motions he was showing the ref.

Quit lying and pretending to be a Pitt fan. You were nowhere near the game so STFU...You're an idiot of the highest order.
